just curious... Mostly because our church e-mailed is today and said we can pay the $435 anytime. There is a $350 pastoral fee and they are charging $85 for mileage reimbursement outside the county that we live in. Our ceremony is literally 15 miles outside..so 60 miles total. We haven't met with our pastor yet and we don't know him. I know they do a lot of work...but is that standard? The coordinator didn't say whether any of that $350 actually goes to the pastor or not.

Nothing's. But we are using an old family friend. But if we had gone the catholic route it would be nothing as well because priests take a vow of poverty so they can't accept money anyways.

Lolsenn - actually just monks or priests in an order (Franciscan, Jesuit, etc.) take a vow of poverty. Parish priests can accept money as a gift Smiley smile ours is technically free, but we'll give him a $100 "tip" plus a more personal gift since he's a friend.

Our church didn't charge us. FH grandparents are members. We will be giving a donation and we have to pay $150 for clean up. We are using the fellowship hall for the reception.

Wow.. i feel really lucky after reading this thread... We aren't paying anything.. at all. Plus he's is traveling to our venue since we aren't getting married at our church (although its still just right outside of town so its not far) and they are letting us use 15 tables from the church at our venue.

    Hi Laura!

Our clergy stipend (for our priest) is $225, the church is $300, the organist is $200, and the wedding facilitator is $150. I'm getting married at church in Greensboro

ETA: We are members of our church.

We were prepared to pay $325 per the quotes on his page, but after meeting with him and his wife and discussing what we wanted they dropped it to $225 at the end of the meeting. We are still getting a personalized ceremony, but I think because we had less people in our wedding (small wedding party etc) and honestly, because they liked us and the fact that we wanted them even with our small budget, they helped us out a little.

@Celia - we were actually more comfortable with her since FH feels no connection to Judaism except cultural. So it was a good compromise to not end up with it being too religious, but I still get some of it done in Hebrew since she's fluent.

@Kay, I'm curious to know who you are using! Everyone in this area (at least Walnut Creek through Pleasanton) quoted an arm and a leg from all the reform and conservative synagogues.

@FutureMrsDrF, I contacted Mychal Copeland from Interfaith Family out of SF, and she recommended Rabbi Jane Litman. She's been really supportive and helpful -- she's even gone so far as to offer to arrange a second bet din for me if my conversion didn't go through the first time (which is a whole other story), and she was happy to do every other monthly check-in via Skype since the East Bay is a day trip for us.

Like Cecila said it depends on what you are talking about. I could get someone to 'marry' pretty cheap. But that isn't what we wanted. We hired an officiant who will be customizing the ceremony to us! She has been very involved in our whole process! $575 which to be me so far as been well worth it!!!

We paid $400 for our officiant in Massachusetts. We had 2 meetings with her prior to the wedding. She did not attend the rehearsal. I think they charge more to be present at the rehearsal though we did think it was necessary.

@rebecca no. Roman Catholic priests take it as well. I was baptized as Roman Catholic, I've been blessed by the Pope, and I've gone through confirmation. My whole family is Roman Catholic. I will be the first not to have a Roman Catholic ceremony. Nobody paid the priest anything. Nobody paid the church anything. Roman Catholic Churches survive on donations and offerings.

Usually, if the officiant is associated with the church, its a donation to the church. Our non-denominational officiant costs $325.

@lolsen and @Rebecca... I am getting married in the Roman Catholic church and I am a member of the church I am getting married at (I've also received all my previous sacraments - baptism, reconciliation/communion, confirmation in the Catholic church) and we are paying our priest a stipend and paying to use the church as well (we will also be gifting him a thank you present). I have to agree with @Rebecca that it depends on the specific church/priest.

I posted the fees in a previous comment.
