    Hi Linda!

I think you can get an idea of average cost if you go to a few bakeries and ask for tastings. At least the places that we have been to, they charge in a per serving basis. Also it depends the design of the cake too.

Have fun with this!! My FH and I are going to about 7 different bakeries because they give free tastings when you meet with them the first time. We're definitely enjoying this part of the planning. Cost can be anything you want it to be. The cost depends on your icing choice, fondant or buttercream, the shape of the cakes (squares and hearts are more than circular cakes - or so I've been told) and the decorations on the cake. Most places here in Tampa, FL run $3-5 a slice. For my first quote, I requested a 3 tier circular cake with buttercream and roses around the base of each tier. It's simple but very elegant. We're expecting about 120. I had the tiered cake for 100 but then requested a groom's cake for 40 (it's a half sheet cake) and it's much less expensive. A larger 3 tier cake only was $600 but for a smaller 3 tier cake and sheet cake, it was $465.

My sister did a smaller cake and then did a very large sheet cake and each piece had their initial on it.

Normally, custom designed wedding cakes will run about $5/piece.

I have a wonderful deal through Alessi Bakery $3.50/piece,well known establishment here in Tampa.

If you are interested in meeting with my baker, please give me a call.

I guess i must be lucky, my cake will be 4-5 tiers for 175. Each tier will be a different flavor and fillings. I t will cost me no more than $375.

We are ordering just a 2 tier cake for the ceremony and providing sheet cake for everyone else. My two tier cake is costing me about $60 due to the fact that I have a coworker doing it for me.
