How much is too much for a venue?

Amanda, on February 7, 2020 at 10:21 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14

Since my husband is in the military we did a legal wedding to get the military and benefits started while planning the wedding. I am leaving our home state to join where he is stationed in over a week but we are trying to get everything set up before I leave. However, me and my husband is really stressed out on paying for a split venue. The first half will be held at our church in the college town we graduated from. They are charging us $500, is this a reasonable price? (They don't have room for a reception) We are also having a hard time swallowing how much the least expensive event venue is, 4,660 before tax. This does include a meal since we are holding it at the start of dinner and we can not use outside catering. We are strongly considering cutting it down to snack bites to hold everyone over. Any suggestions?

All I know is we’re paying $4000 for both ceremony and reception venue together and we have to get outside food which is going to be quite a bit itself

It really depends on the venue. My venue has a $6,000 minimum but I will probably spend closer to 10,000 for the venue which includes catering.

It depends on location and the venue and what the venue offers.

We are in Missouri and our venue was $1,800 for a Saturday (ceremony and reception) with tables, chairs, linens, center pieces.
But some venues here go up to $3,000. I know there is venues in NY for $6,000-$7,000. Where are you located?
Have you thought about looking a little bit further out from where you are now? Our venue is 1 hour from our house. You’ll find the right one for the right price! I was getting ready to give up because I didn’t want to spend $3,000 on a venue and I found ours! I fell in love instantly!

$5160 for a ceremony, reception, and dinner?! I’m not sure where you are located, but this is an amazing price! We paid over $6000 for just space rental. Does the reception venue have good reviews? If so, I’d strongly suggest booking it and keeping the dinner option if it’s within your budget.

I think this sounds cheap. It’s gonna be hard to find something lower than that unless it’s something like a public park.

Our church is charging us the same, it’s mainly to pay for the musicians and people needed to be there. I was surprised that a Catholic Church would charge that amount, but it’s better than renting a ceremony venue which costs way more in our area.

I live in a cheaper area, and my dinner catering and venue are gonna come in at $4,200. And we're doing a cheap meal. So I think this sounds fine. Sticker shock is real, but when you break it down, it sounds like a very good deal.

The venue is pricey at 4600 but the fact that includes a meal is pretty cool. Our food will be about 2k alone and it’s not even steak or salmon or anything lol. The Venue we booked is $1200. It includes tables and chairs and working that’s it

That sounds like a great proce. Most of the places I looked at ranged from $500 to $500 just for the site fee and then had an additional food minimum requirement on top of that.

Hey!! We did the same thing, but to get started with the green card process!

We are getting married out of town and ended up paying $1500 for the church (with discount!!) And $4k for venue (with discount!!) Which does not include food or drinks! I looked at several churches back home and they were all between $500-$1000. The church I chose is the only one near the mountains so it's why it's more expensive but is BEAUTIFUL! I remember when my sister got married our hometown church, the "suggested donation" was $500. We're lucky our parents are helping to pay for most things, costs add up so fast! But I'd say your prices so far are spot on.

Always depends on the area, but I would say that sounds like a good deal! I’m in MA and a ton of venues I was interested charged 4-6,000 just for space rental! For reference, my venue here will be about $5,800 including ceremony and meals before tax

This 100% depends on where you are. To some people that’s going to sound high and to some people that’s going to sound really low. Your best bet is to compare with other venues in your area.
