How much is the average wedding cake?

Candis, on January 19, 2017 at 1:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hey everyone! I don't know why I'm just now seeing these forums and discussions. Clearly I haven't been navigating WW correctly. Haha. But I was just wondering what everyone is planning on spending on their wedding cake or have already spent. What's the lowest you'd spend vs the highest you'd spend?

.......................................................

*UPDATED BY WW IN 2020*

According to our WeddingWire Cost Guide, the average cost of a wedding cake in the U.S. is around $500 with most couples spending between $300 to $700. Frosting type, size, and design complexity can all impact the cost, and in many places, cupcakes can be a bit cheaper.

The guide also has info on what goes into the total price of a wedding cake, what questions you should be sure to ask a wedding cake baker, and the option to filter and find the average cake cost in your location!

Yeah, I priced with two bakeries, and they both quoted $3/person. $4 for fondant.

Like a lot of things, it depends where you are. Prices I've been given start at $6/serving for buttercream and $7 for fondant.

It honestly depends on the bakery. Im a baker and I have known places to start at $3/person and others to start at $7 a person. You want special designs, flavors, fondant and real flowers, its going to make things more expensive.

My cake was more like $3.75 a person because we went with a specialty flavor for 1 tier and we did a special filling for all tiers. Otherwise, Im doing simple piping which for our bakery didnt cost more.

We received quotes anywhere from $3 per slice to $12 per slice. And this was all for buttercream. We wanted to stay around $3-$5 per slice.

It depends on location. Where I am, it's $5-$9/ person depending on the cake and the bakery.

Mine is included in my venue package. But if we opted to have an outside bakery make it they would give us $2/slice allowance and we'd have to cover the rest. So that makes me think that's about average.

We are paying $450 for enough cake to feed 85-100 people. It's fully fondant with a decent amount of detail though.

I've been in the throes of getting cake quotes and am probably ditching it for budget issues as many of you know. Here it ranges from $5-8 a slice after taxes.

In Seattle the average is $6-12 per serving depending on how detailed it is. $6 is basic buttercream and the it goes up from there.

Ours was included in the per person charge. My sister's contract said she had to pick-out a cake that was at least $8 per slice (it was an a la carte menu). She chose one that was $9 (buttercream) then there was a service charge, and tax on both.

We are paying about $160 for a two tier cake and 2 full sheet cakes, with different flavors for each. The price also included delivery.

We were quoted $375 for a 3 tier cake and 4 sheet cakes. The tiered cake starts at $2.75/serving, but increases if you want extra designs.
