How much does it cost to have a wedding party?

Fall2019, on February 1, 2019 at 9:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hi everyone! So my FH and I are thinking of having a small wedding party (maybe even just a best man and MOH). Part of it is that those two people are the ones that we really want standing next to us but part of it is also to save on costs. There’s a lot of information about what it costs to be in a wedding but I haven’t found much on how much it usually costs to have a wedding party. What would you say you’re spending on your bridesmaids/groomsmen (ie hair and makeup, bouquets, etc)? Thank you!!

It's subjective. Some can spend thousands. Some spend hundreds.

Spend what is in your budget. Only you know your budget. But if you are looking at cutting costs, a small or no wedding party is the way to go.

It really depends. You should consider that having attendants will mean that each one should have a date, so for two attendants that's four people to feed at the wedding and at the rehearsal dinner if you decide to have one. If you're doing florals, you will have to pay for their bouquet or boutonniere. You should also give them a "thank you" gift for being in the wedding. Other costs are optional; hair and makeup, accessories, etc.

That depends on what you plan to provide (some brides provide more than they have to, because they can afford to). You are basically obligated to provide: bouquet or boutineer and a thank you gift. They are responsible for purchasing the dress or tux you pick out (as long as it is in their budget). And you don't have to pay for their shoes, jewelry, or hair & makeup UNLESS you require them to wear/look a certain way.

Cost depends on what you want. Flowers go up in cost based on more detail. Depends on if you are paying for their hair/makeup/outfits or asking them to pay. You need to pay for a gift - again which depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to get them. We spent quite a bit on our bridal party but they also spent a bunch on us in return. Both sides planned amazing bachelor/bachelorette parties, paid for bridal shower, their own outfits, their hair, travel expenses to get to the wedding, hotel the night of, and more.

    So for us, each bridesmaid is costing = $40 (rehearsal dinner food & drink) + $15 (proposal gift) + $10 (bachelorette party favor) + $70 (day of gifts) + $140 (hair & makeup) + $75 (bridesmaid bouquet) = $350. Each groomsmen is costing = $40 (rehearsal dinner food & drink) + $10 (proposal gift) + $30 (day of gifts) + $10 (tie) + $15 (boutineer) = $105.

This doesn't include if they have a plus one for the rehearsal dinner (so another $40 for some of them), and what the wedding dinner & drinks will cost since they would be invited anyway!

We spent $100 for each bridesmaid bouquet, $150 each for gift of hair or makeup and a gift card, $20 per person for food/drink while getting ready, around $70 per person for the welcome party. For my husband’s groomsmen it was less because he got them cheaper gifts and their boutonnières were only $25 a piece.

    So for us, each bridesmaid is costing = $35 (rehearsal dinner food & drink) + $15 (proposal gift) + $50 (day of gifts) + $23 (getting ready robes) + $45 (bridesmaid bouquet) + $15 (breakfast/lunch day of) = $183

    Each groomsmen is costing = $35 (rehearsal dinner food & drink) + $35 (day of gifts) + $20 (tie) + $8 - $12 (socks) + $33 (white button up) + $12 (boutineer) + $8 (lunch day of) = $151

These totals do not include their SO's dinner at the rehearsal dinner ($35) or the portion of HMU I paid for because not every girl chose to get theirs done. I paid $40 toward each girl that got her HMU done professionally.

Thats a tough one cause it really depends on what your wedding budget is.. you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you want.

heres a rough breakdown of ours. keep in mind we have 7 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen

What we spent on them: 100 each on wedding food/drink (which would have been a cost regardless if they were a guest or wedding party member). 40 each for rehearsal meal. wedding makeup 75 each. gifts 50 each. Food day of getting ready 30 each. misc things about 150 each

what they spent to be in wedding party: 150-200 each on dress (i let them choose their own), 100 each plus basket for shower ( i only know cause my moh keeps me in the loop, im a planner, surprises stress me out to no end). 75 each on hair should they choose. bachelorette around 900 each should they choose to join, but was left 100 percent optional. and im sure a few other misc things like shoes if they need them, hotel if they are out of towners etc.
