Have an appt Sunday for my very first dress shop experience! eeek!! Ive been prowling around on The Knot and other sites and majority of the dresses i like are Maggie Sottero. BUT..I cant find any pricing! If 3 shops in Pgh carry the same dress are they going to be the same price or do they vary by the shop? Of course they aren't going to post pricing on the sites to make my life easier. I dont want to spend that much on a dress I think between $1000-$2000 including alterations. By the way, how much are alterations? And is Maggie Sottero even a decent designer? Im getting married on the beach so I want something made of Chiffon and flowy but with a little bling. Any advice on other designers?

Maggie dresses sell for MSRP, meaning that all shops carrying her dresses *should* be selling them for the same price. If you're looking at older designs you can always check bestbridalprices.com to find out the price.

When I was browsing on the internet, I totally fell for Maggie. Then I went shopping and found something way better not from her, actually it's not a huge name brand dress and it looks stunning. Most of them run 1500+

Any designer is a good designer as long as you like the dress.

I would say her dresses are most popular. I think they are usually $1500 or under. Look up the Reese. I say that's my sister dress, but way more beachy and blingy than mine is.

I'm sure everyone has differing opinions on this, but I personally would never let a bridal shop do my alterations just bc I know of a seamstress who does alterations out of her house for a reasonable price. I've taken several bridesmaid gowns and cocktail dresses to her, and I plan to take my wedding gown to her as well. When I bought my gown, alterations were "included" in the price of the gown. The shop owner told me that's valued at anywhere from $250-$500-- so that might give you an idea as to the average cost of alterations at a bridal shop. However, she knocked $200 off the price of my dress because I was taking it elsewhere to be altered, and I'm guessing my seamstress will charge me less than $75. If you can find a good, reliable local seamstress through an online search or word-of-mouth, it might be worth checking into at least for a cost comparison!
