So, I went to a bridal expo last night and I won free Save The Dates. Woohoo!! I'm very excited about that. BUT, the vendor that I won them from wants you to order wedding invitations from them as well. Understandable. But considering that I'm no where near invitation time, I have no frame of reference for invitation pricing. I just tried to go to Vistaprint to see what their pricing was because I figured that would be one of the lowest price-points. But I figured I would also just come to you guys for reference.

What did you guys pay for your invitations?

    @Reggie,

They don't require me to purchase the invites now. But they do require a commitment to eventually purchase them. I don't have the details worked out for my real invitations this far ahead either.

I did like their designs and she also said she would custom design anything I wanted from pinterest, etsy or another website. I just truly had no idea what invitations cost. With her discount, it would be about $1.60 and invite. It seems like a lot of the girls with lower invite budgets spent between $1-$2 on invites so that's reassuring. Obviously girls got way better local deals but I'm in NJ and feel like the awesome deals people speak of just aren't available to me.

I work in an ad agency, my job deals w/ direct mail every day. It sounds like you won a deal from a local invite shop, which is a lot like a direct mail print vendor.

    Cost is based on:

    - design

    - finishes (foil stamping, embossing, die-cutting, added gloss or matte coatings)

    - paper (the heavier the stock, the higher the price. Specialty paper, such as linen or metallic, starts at a higher price point)

    - final size of the piece (print shops don't use conventional sized papers, they use large sheets and print multiple invites on 1 page. The more invites they can fit on a sheet, the lower the price)

    - number of total pieces (the higher the number, the lower the price per piece)

    - method of printing (places like Vistaprint & Zazzle use digital printing. This is where the ink lays ON TOP of the paper & is generally cheaper in cost. Offset printing is a more complex form of printing, but is necessary for the added finishes. It's comprised of creating screens and the ink is absorbed INTO the paper)

Your best bet will be to take your OVERALL budget, divide it by the # of invites you need and that is your price per piece. Make sure the vendor quotes you a price per piece that includes a comparable envelope.

**Keep in mind, square invites are beautiful, but cannot be auto-sorted in the post office, so the price of postage is higher.

**Another money saving tip is RSVP cards. Use postcards instead of cards/envelopes. Who cares if the postcard gets dirty on it's way back to you? All that matters is your guest saw a pretty card & you saved some money! Smiley smile

    GOOD LUCK!

I had my wedding planner/doc team design some for me. It is $250 for 120 invites, inserts, and printed envelopes. Not bad for a custom job. I was afraid they would charge more.

NJ Bride, that's a pretty good price if you're staying basic. I ordered both my STD and invites off of Etsy (nothing extreme) and spent about $250 total for 100 STDs and 80 invites.

I'm NJ but in Hunterdon. Smiley smile

ETA: I also ordered additional inserts (uploaded own design and had downloaded fonts used for invite) from Vistaprint with accommodations info. With stamps and everything, I'm looking at about $350-400 for stationary (125 guests).

We bought 2 Groupons to use at VistaPrint - each one was $27 for $70 worth of product. So for $54 (plus shipping cost) we got: 60 invites, 60 RSVP cards, 30 rehearsal dinner cards, 48 envelope seals, custom koozie for my dad, a tote bag for both moms.

I got 70 STDs, 80 invitations, 80 rsvp cards, and stickers to seal the envelopes for about $110 on vista print. 35% off. Other sites cost way more and I can justify spending $400 on invites...

Ask if you can purchase a digital copy of the invitation and print them yourself or at a printshop.

    Here is what I paid:

    $40 for digital copy

$13 to print on linen paper at local print shop (invites and RSVPs)

$20 for specialty envelops for invite and RSVPs (I got wood grain)

$25 for all postage (including RSVP stamped envelops)

$3 at Michael's for a hole punch and ribbon to make tags and bows

    $5 for metallic pens

    Total of 40 invites

I'm making my own because I couldn't find what I wanted. It'll probably cost me about $500 plus my sanity when all is said and done

I paid $45 for two 30 count boxes of print at home invitation suites (invites, folder/holder thing they go into w/rsvp card, rsvp card & return envelope, and envelopes) from Michael's w/their frequent coupons. It took a couple hours to print everything, and another few hours to put them all together and address them. It is probably more time consuming, but I think it is one of the cheapest routes. I was really happy with the quality for the price. I got my STDs from Vistaprint, I think I paid about $35 for 60 STDs. So they are also a budget option, a little more expensive, but less time you have to put into it.

ETA: Also take into consideration things like the total weight of the invite, and if there are any protrusions (i.e. bumps from a ribbon tied around the invite inside the envelope) as these will make the postage cost more. My invites also came with a little ribbon to tie around the holder thing, it would have added another 20 something cents to the postage cost of each invite, so I skipped that part. I am spending more on postage than I did on the invites. The stamps to send the invites were $0.72 I think, and then the regular postage for the RSVP card. Just something to keep in mind.

What type of vendor is it? Is it a stationary store? If so, prices will be much higher than what has been discussed.
