How Much Do Invitations Cost?

Jersey, on July 23, 2015 at 10:41 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

So, I went to a bridal expo last night and I won free Save The Dates. Woohoo!! I'm very excited about that. BUT, the vendor that I won them from wants you to order wedding invitations from them as well. Understandable. But considering that I'm no where near invitation time, I have no frame of reference for invitation pricing. I just tried to go to Vistaprint to see what their pricing was because I figured that would be one of the lowest price-points. But I figured I would also just come to you guys for reference.

What did you guys pay for your invitations?

Depends on what you get, how many you get, and who you go through. I got 250 from Vistaprint for $300. Others, like Minted and Wedding Paper Divas would have cost me triple that.

It's just going to depend on what you want. I love stationery personally and allocated quite a bit for my invitations...in all we're spending about $1200 for 110 invitation suites. You can spend alot less than that...and you can spend alot more...it all depends on your own budget and what you really want them to look/feel like. You can cut costs by DIY'ing alot too if you have a knack for that. (I certainly don't!)

I paid $8.50 a piece for mine. I've seen people pay as little as a dollar. I've also seen people pay as much as $15/each.

I paid $133 for 120 invitations with printed envelopes, 5 by 7 flat invites, reply postcards and reception cards. It was through a local print shop but vista print probably would have been similar. One of my closest friends is a graphic designer so she did the design.

Before she offered, I was going to use exclusivelyweddings.com for one of their cheaper ones, which would have been similar in cost.

Hmmm... okay! Hers are about $2 dollars an invite. She does have a few for $1 an invite but I don't really like them because they are just plain white pieces of paper with black info written on them. And obviously she has more expensive ones! But looking through her album, I felt like I could get a decent one for $2. She was also offering a 20% discount to all who attended the bridal show. So I would need about 125 invites and that would come to about $200.

ETA: That includes RSVP cards, reception cards and envelopes

I couldn't drop a couple hundred bucks on invitations. I just...couldn't do it. I bought a kit from Michael's. For a total of 80 invites, rsvp cards, and thank you cards (I just bought them then too since they matched) they cost $92. The invitations were probably only half of that so say $45 for invites and $45 for the ️thank you cards.

@NJBride where are you located? I'm also in NJ! Bergen County here Smiley smile

I'm DIY my invites since I own my own invite biz Smiley smile They are costing about $5.00 each but I imported silk from Thailand and have large brooches on them, they would probably retail for about $15.00 $20.00 each

I had invites custom designed for me:

    $350 for painting and design

$135 for 150 invitations to be printed by local printer

    $10 for hand perforation

    $50 for 200 natural envelopes

    Total: $545

I'm using the custom art on other wedding paper as well so that cost was worth it for me (such as thank you notes, signs, etc).

ETA: I would recommend deciding on your budget for invitations. Then calculate the cost of save the dates and invites bought from another vendor. Technically, I wouldn't call this something you won; more like a coupon she's given you to entice you into her store. I don't like that you "won" something, but that it came with strings attached.

Also, ask yourself how important the invites are to you. How important is it to purchase them locally? By purchasing locally, you are supporting the local economy which imo is worth a little bit extra.

Did she have several styles that you AND your FH liked? For me, invitations were important (and also my bane). FH liked invitations that were not my favorite, and while we both agreed on what we wanted style wise, what we wanted didn't exist. I spent more than I needed to, but we also got EXACTLY what I wanted.

Mine were custom made, and 100 cost me just over $300. that was for the pocket fold, invitation, response card and response envelope.

I got my invitations from zazzle, I did 5x7 flat invites and got some 'chunky business cards' for added info about RSVPing through the website. I tied them together with a ribbon from JoAnns and probably only spent about $120 on 90 invitations.

Pretty sure our total was under $100 for 60 invites and 75 RSVP cards. I used Zazzle for the invites and VistaPrint for the RSVPs. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on invites, so we just went with something simple (but I still think it's pretty :-)).

    I paid about $99 for 50 invitations from elli.com.

We really didn't need quite that many but I was worried about running out and ordering 40 of them was only like $2 less I think. So it didn't make sense to me to maybe run out or maybe not have enough to put one in the scrapbook over $2. With elli (and some other places) they get cheaper per piece the more you buy, so there wasn't a big price difference between 40 and 50 since the price per piece went down at that break.

Are they requiring you to buy your invitations from them in order to get the STDs, or just asking you to? Unless it's required I would just explain that you're not ready to order them yet and will get back to them when you are. Personally, I needed my STDs quite a few months out but didn't have things like the exact start time for the ceremony figured out yet so I *couldn't* have ordered my invites yet.

If it's a requirement then A] that seems a little fishy for a "giveaway" and B] I would be sure to price them out well first. If they are expensive it might end up being cheaper to BUY your STDS and invites from another company than to get the STDs free if you have to buy expensive invites to get them. Also, if you don't totally love any of their invites you don't want to pick something you don't love just to go with that company.
