I originally got a dress from David's Bridal last year and alterations were about $300 for adding cups, shortening the hem, and adding a bustle. However I was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after and underwent lots of treatment (including double mastectomy and reconstruction). Needless to say my old dress doesn't fit at all anymore and I went to a more expensive boutique to look for a new one. I bought a sample dress there for $1500, but now the inhouse tailor quoted $1150 for alterations! This is to add the bustle, take in sides (it's a bit loose) and add boning, add cups, shorten the shoulder straps, shorten the hem (5 layers), and add in more lace lining for the bodice to hide my mastectomy scars.
I ended up paying it because I just had reconstruction surgery and only have 15 days left till my wedding/don't have the energy to shop around while recovering, but does this price seem super high??
