How much did you spend when you were a bridesmaid?

Trinity, on April 29, 2020 at 8:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 22

Hello everyone,

I am curious out of boredom. If you have ever been a bridesmaid, how much did you spend? When I was a BM, I remember I spent about:

Bridal Shower: $120 (I got food, decor and a gift for the bride)

2 Nights Hotel: $350 (the wedding was 4 hours away)

BM Dress: $130

Wedding Gift: $200

Total: $800

Would love to hear from everybody.

Bridal Shower - about $80-$100 for party contributions and gift
    Wedding gift - $150 or $200 (can’t remember)
    Bachelor party - $600-$700 Hair - $90
Bride covered dress and makeup, as well as Airbnb two nights for the weekend of the wedding.

I’ve never been one until now and so far I’ve spent $200 just on two flights for bachelorette and the wedding since the bride lives out of state. I already know I’ll spend another maybe $100 on Some ubers. I know my wedding gift will be $200 (from me and my husband). I did get my dress but i don’t count it because I got to choose my own dress and I chose one that I’m 100% wearing again ahah and it was only $10 anyway. So thus far we are planning her bachelorette and shower and so I won’t know how much those will cost entirely yet but for me my main concern was how much I’d spend on travel alone.

I have been a bridesmaid a number of times but I’ve never gone over $600. I did one time spent as little as 120, BUT that was wedding was so disorganized and thrown together.

    I’ve spent anywhere from $****.

With the wedding I’ll be in October, it’s looking to be roughly around $3500 with flights, attire, gifts, shower/bachelorette contributions, etc.

Exactly! When I chose my bridesmaids, I told them ahead of time that the out of state ones are not required to attend my bridal shower or bachelorette party. I don't want to put this burden on others.

The one I was in also had 7 BMs, but not all of them attended the bridal shower and bachelorette parties. So we ended up with 3 BMs paying only.

Yeah me and another bridesmaid had a feeling we were gonna spend $250 EACH flight. so spending $200 overall on both flights wasn't so bad. but altogether it IS kind of sucky to spend so much just on travel alone. not only that but her stupid venue doesn't do rehearsals on any other day but THURSDAY. which means we are all missing work on thursday AND friday for a saturday wedding. kind of sucks but it is what it is aha i just put a smile on my face and say I WILL BE THERE aha. i can estimate that the bachelorette would cost me maybe $100 and the shower would probably cost less than $100 but i don't know yet.

It ended up being out of town. We did it in NOLA so it includes the cost of flights, hotel, decorations, food, drinks, etc. for a 5 day trip. But where I come from (NY), bachelorette trips are the norm so most people spend more than 1k.

Lol, it’s my husband’s sister and he’s also in the wedding. She was also one of my bridesmaids earlier this year.

I’ve done an estimate for my wedding, and my girls spent around $**** and my MOH spent around $6000 so it might be the norm for us. (They went balls to walls crazy with my bachelorette and my wedding was semi-destination. I bought their dresses and paid for hair/makeup.)
Here’s what I’m spending for this upcoming wedding:- dress $150- hair/makeup $250- flight for bachelorette $250- flight for wedding $350- Airbnb for bachelorette $450- 3 night hotel for wedding $750- Bachelorette contribution (decor, food, etc) $250 **estimate - bridal shower contribution (Decor, food, etc) $250 **estimate- bridal shower gift $200- wedding gift $300

For a wedding last June in Long Island:

Bridal Shower - $90 since I made cookies and for gas, but the mom paid for everything else

Gift: My fiancee and I were both in the wedding - I think collectively we spent around $250-300

Bachelorette- about $100 (this is so cheap bc we had free housing and we went to museums and ordered pizza in - my fiancee spent about $500 on the bachelor party for a nice dinner and bar hopping, in NYC)

Dress, accessories and makeup (we did our own) - $270 ($130 for dress, $50 for shoes, $100 for makeup)

Wedding hotel - roughly $300 for two nights

1500-2K is not uncommon as most of my good friends live out of state and destination bachelorettes are common. I think I am at the end of my bridesmaid days and can't say I am that sad.

Dang. So it would’ve been less if the other bridesmaids had participated?

2k-4k. It would be less if it were an in-state wedding that didn't involve so much traveling for pre-wedding events. But its a once in a lifetime thing that we'll remember forever. After my wedding, I'll be a bridesmaid in only 2 more weddings, and I'm not mad about it. It is expensive.
