FH and I actually saved up nothing, we are paying for the wedding monthly, along with other bills we have. We are down to the final $1000 we owe (which will be paid to the caterer and bartender after the reception) and are just now starting to build up some savings since we no longer have the extra expenses.

I was very stressed every month, worrying if we would make it or not (I am the huge budgeter, surprisingly lol) but FH knew we were going to be fine and was very calm about it and just kept telling me to relax, we would be fine..and he was right!

FH and I have known each other for 3 years, but have dated less than 1 year. We both started saving (without telling the other) a few months into dating. By the time he asked, collectively we had just under $10,000.

We had nothing saved when FH proposed, but we have been saving for well over a year and have all of our deposits in and are just a few hundred short of having enough for the final payments but our wedding isn't for another 5 months so we have plenty of time. We've been saving a percentage of our income religiously for the past year. I'm SUPER stressed about it, even though I KNOW we will be fine. I'm just a worrier.

We didn't have anything saved up for the wedding and we had a very short engagement. However, we kept our guest list small, and nixed all extras that we did not find important. The stressful part was only that most wedding stuff cost much more than we estimated in the beginning.

So we paid as we went. We're blessed that we could afford it. But we also kept the cost at the level at which we did not feel overwhelmed, if that makes sense.

I refused to get really into the planning/purchasing anything until I had the budgeted amount that we planned to spend which was $12,000 because secretly I knew I would go over a little. So now that we are a little over budget its not as stressful because since last Sept we have been saving for things other than the wedding so we have everything covered without stressing about where the money is going to come from.

I am glad we did this because we are doing this on our own and I knew that we didn't really have people to go to to contribute if we needed extra money.

I started doing some research on my ideas for our wedding before we got engaged, but I refused to save any money until I knew I was getting married (when he actually proposed). The only thing we had to pay for right away was a 500 deposit for the venue a month later, so that wasn't bad. We were engaged March 2011, so we had plenty of time to set money aside a pay for stuff as it came. We also would put stuff on a joint credit card we got for the wedding and then put all of our extra money towards the credit card.

    Zero.

We will have saved about $3,000 by the wedding date. My parents are contributing the rest.

We only had $7,000 saved. The rest came when he got his bonuses and when we got tax refunds, and we added that to the pot.

We had nothing saved for a wedding. We have been saving religiously every month since we got engaged to pay for the wedding. When we decided on a budget, we came up with what we could realistically save each month. We are very close to having everything paid off.

We had nothing saved when we got engaged. Then we saved, but lost the money when we got flooded during Hurricane Irene (we had to remodel our first floor). We had to save again, and now have enough to cover the balances.

Almost nothing. We really saved up during the planning process. And since I am self-employed and NotFroofy lost her job during the engagement, we didn't even have a steady stream of income. We bought things in order of importance, so that if we couldn't save as much as we wanted to, it would be the least important things that got skipped.

We started saving a year before he proposed. By the time he popped the question, I think we had about $5000 saved and we just kept adding to it every month. It really made it alot easier to hand over hundreds of dollars at a time to vendors without stressing about the mortgage or our other bills.

I had about 5k in my savings, though some of that actually had to disappear for other expenses. We started planning right away because we needed to know exactly how much we would need. If you don't know how much things cost how can you know how much to save?

We had nothing saved for the wedding when we set a date (that was this past January). We've been able to pull it off by allotting money from our monthly income, and we got a little bit of tax money that we've put toward it also. Presently, 60% of the wedding is paid for and we have about 90% of the remaining funds in the bank. Like Mrs. S, we kept our wedding on a budget and our guest list small.

We had nothing saved for the wedding. However, we did the same as Soon to Be Mrs C-we came up with a number based on a percentage we were each comfortable with putting away each month. It turned out to be quite an aggressive number I am finding out now but we've done it and are almost there. We have five months to go so we still have some time to save but man I'm looking forward to being able to put it into a different pot! The good news is that we have learned that we can save A LOT more than we thought possible when we just put our minds to it. Smiley smile
