How many wedding colors is too many?

Katelyn, on August 8, 2019 at 9:27 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

How many wedding colors do you have?

For my quickly approaching wedding, we are having a hard time choosing colors that will look good in the space and that we can get flowers to match.

We want something very elegant and romantic.

The walls in our venue are white brick and we will have white fabric draping on the ceiling by the gold chandeliers. Im worried that white table cloths and white chairs will just be too much white.

We also plan to have a lot of greenery on the tables.

Dou think that black, white, gold, forest green and baby blue will look good? Or is there any other color combinations you suggest that are more romantic?

I think that people struggle with this because they think that every single item in their venue needs to be considered part of their color palette. Our table cloths are white, but white isn't one of our "wedding colors." The lanterns in our centerpieces are gold, but I don't consider gold one of our "wedding colors." Our colors are burgundy, navy, and mauve. Our bridesmaids will be wearing mauve, our flowers will be white, mauve, and burgundy, and my FW and bridesmen will be wearing navy. I also think that white linens and drapery is very elegant and definitely wouldn't be too much. Depending on how you're planning to use the black, I would just say that green, blue, and gold are your colors, which I don't think is too many.

I tried to pick more of a color family, but I agree that straying from that some is totally fine. I played around with colors I liked, colors I liked for the crepe paper I was going to use to make flowers, and colors I thought we might want for bridesmaids dresses. The last wedding I went to was outdoors under tents, which were huge and very white. They did black tablecloths with greenery for centerpieces and gold table numbers and accents, and it was gorgeous - I'd definitely recommend considering black tablecloths to offset the white.

I think it should be limited to three of four colors for simplicity. Also I don't consider white part of the pallette as it's a wedding standard

We had two main colors and two accent colors. We didn't base our colors on the venue though. We just selected colors we liked. I personally wouldn't use more than 4 colors.

I think those colors sound pretty together! I don't think it'd seem like too much white. My old roommate got married in a white barn, the draping was white, and the tables were white-wash farm tables. It was beautiful, and they had pops of color to breakup the white. We have 5 colors as well, but 3 of them are accent colors. Our main colors are pink and navy. Rose gold, gold, and silver are our accent colors.

Exactly this. Our colors were burgundy and gold with a plaid accent. The bridesmaids wore burgundy dresses and our flowers had predominately burgundy and greenery. Our linens and chairs were ivory which looked beautiful and caused the other colors to pop. I did not consider ivory to be one of our colors.

Mines the same, but instead of baby blue it'll be a touch of lavender. Greenery, black, white, gold. Good taste 😉

We are considering lavender, that is what my fiance likes more. We are not having a wedding party so choosing colors is so much easier!

When's the wedding? Mine's in February 2020, I can show you what it ends up looking like. But the only lavender is my dress...and maybe a few seed pods and a couple of flowers
