How many tables?

FutureMrs.Dyson, on August 9, 2016 at 12:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hey y'all! So we are expecting 125 guests. It would save a little money if we have 6-8 people at each table. But the room where the reception is being held is really large! But there will be a selfie station, gifts and cards table, caterer area with a big fruit display and another little table. And 15-20 tables. And the dance floor! I don't want the room to look empty. How many people are you having at your tables? How many tables are you having? Is 8 too many or too crowded?

Do you know the dimension of the dining tables? That makes a difference in whether 8 will fit comfortably.

We are having 33 tables of 8. I am not sure the dimensions of the tables though! I don't think the room should look empty. We are having dinner on one floor and then moving up to the top floor with cocktail tables and rooftop patio for drinks/dancing.

Are you having a bar? You could add in a few cocktail tables.

There won't be a "bar" but there will be like a bar area with alcohol and stuff.

You should be able to fit 8 at 90 inch tables.

Ours will be ~25 tables, with a mix of 8-10 at each table. We had our food tasting this weekend and our room was set up for about the same as it will be for our wedding, and it looked great!!

If you're worried about the room looking empty, I LOVE @Laine's idea about cocktail tables!

A few tall cocktail tables would be cute!

On a 90" round you can usually do 10 so 8 is roomy. Any less and it could feel empty at the table. I have 60" rounds and had to do two 9 tops to keep families together, and then two 5 tops, the rest are 6-8.

Leave plenty of walking space between tables. If you still have a ton of space, you can add cocktail tables around the dance floor and in front of the bar.

Did you factor in a cake/dessert table and area for the guestbook? Or a small "memory" table with photos of loved ones that have passed on. That could take up some more room and you could probably use end tables from your house with a tablecloth over them.

You could also see if the venue has access to some straight-back chairs and a coffee table or two where you could set up a more intimate space for people to spend time together.

We had the same size tables and we fit 8 or 9 at them very comfortably. 6 might actually look sparse. But you may also find when you do your seating chart that it makes more sense to have some tables of 6, some with 9 etc. What's the actual capacity of your room?

That's a really good point about the tables looking sparse. Since most people will have family their group friends there, 8 per table should be fine. I'm not sure about the capacity. But I've been there for parties, and there were at least 250-300 people there

We have about 125 guests as well

16 round tables seats 8 each. 8 tables on each side. I'm hoping they are spaced enough so the venue doesn't look empty.
