How many still do bouquet and garter toss

Dawn, on June 2, 2018 at 6:44 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 35
I'm considering tossing out the whole garter toss thing. I really hate when a groom goes under dress in front of tons of people. Especially little kids and hearing explanation after that. With that I'm considering tossing out both how many people would u think could be upset by this. I know its my day but if I have to do a bouquet toss to keep ladies happy I will. But garter ain't happening unless fiance says he really wants to do it but sure he will be on my side. Opinions on this please

I am just doing the bouquet toss. The garter thing make me uncomfortable both for me and who catches the bouquet and now has to be felt up by whoever catches the garter.

my MOH got me a garter, I am going to save it for my FH to see after the wedding.

See that's my thing I don't want someone like my 17 year old niece to catch bouquet and then some 35 year old man catch garter. So we are tossing out the garter also I'm don't want my fiance under my dress in front of 100 people

The DJ forgot to announce the bouquet toss at my first wedding and guests stayed at the very end for it but it was too late to do it. I think as long as you tell everyone in advance, it should be fine! It's your wedding, you get to do what you want Smiley smile

Good idea to let them know ahead of time.

I’m not doing either. We don’t have a lot of singles at our wedding and when I was a single I’ve always hated being forced to go do the bouquet toss. I would literally let it drop right in front of me and not touch it. So I’m not doing that to people.

    We aren't doing either.
My bouquet toss would require hard hats, protective gloves, and safety glasses. 😉
Also skipping the garter toss even though I'll have one.

I didn't do either as I hate them both.
When I was single, i refused to go on the floor for the bouquet toss.

I’m doing the bouquet toss and then I’m handing FH the garter to throw.. he’s not going in my dress to find it lol I agree that’s distasteful

I've only seen a couple of garter tosses ever, and the bouquet toss happens less and less.my daughter and sil didn't do either. They are among the first of their friends and family to get married. There were plenty of people to participate, but they saw no reason to interrupt the party for antiquated customs.

I'm not going to point out to everyone that some of my guests are single. I find it uncomfortable, especially if you are one of just a couple of singles at a wedding. The last few weddings I have been to have not done them, and nobody noticed or cared. Nobody goes to a wedding just dying to see the garter toss.

We aren't doing either. The 2 weddings I was in last year didn't do either tradition. I don't think it's that common anymore.

One of the most mortifying moments OF MY LIFE was being a 9 year old and catching the bouquet...only to find out some random dude would now be touching me. 😵 THANKFULLY the grown man who caught the garter had the decency to hand it off to his son who was my age but godddd sitting in a chair in front of a ton of people while he put that on my leg was so not fun. The adults all thought it was cute and funny and I was just like NOPE NOPE NOPE THIS TRADITION NEEDS TO DIE. So glad to see it is 😈

As a kid I used to see almost all of the women get up for the bouquet toss, it seems that each wedding I attend now has less women get up for it, if there even is a toss. I don't think it would really be missed if you chose to skip it.

That's why it is dying in my family at least here with me. I remember my cousins face when her husband did it. Since reading all these I'm definitely out and no extra bouquet either since the one I will have is staying with me. Actually considering using wooden roses for my bouquet since they are so pretty

I was thinking about not doing either myself, but until this thread I have never heard of the person who catches the garter having to put it on the person who catches the bouquet?!

I've been to only a handful of weddings ever and never saw anyone do that (even if they do the garter & bouquet toss)... I'm thinking this is something I will skip on too! Besides I want to keep my bouquet and why make an extra just to throw at someone?

I’m doing it but waiting until close to the end of the night. And i has never heard of a man putting the garter on the woman that caught the bouquet. I definitely don’t want that at all. I think it can be fun but also think it’s fine to choose to skip it!

I'm doing a bouquet in a glass box... whoever gets the right key can open the box and get the bouquet.

My wedding I...we...decide what we will do. We are having a nontraditional wedding and reception. We will pick what tradition we would love to keep/do on our special day Smiley sexy . Don't be bound by tradition, don't feel obligated.

I dobt like the idea of the garter belt either. I'm skipping that part. But for the tosses I'm having teddy bears dressed as a bride and groom. Most of the single guests are kids, so ill do the tossing of the bears for them.

I'm definitely ditching the garter thing for the same reason as you so don't feel bad or alone on this. FHs grandmother is obsessing over me doing it and I said absolutely not and she would not stop so I just said ok so she'd leave me alone lol but I'm not doing it, I refuse to do something I'm not comfortable with. As for the bouquet, I will be purchasing a fake one because I'm not about to toss $100 lol!! I'm just doing it mainly for the fun of it and the reactions and laughter. Do what you feel comfortable with! 🙂
