How many RSVP's did you get by the deadline?

Charlotte T., on January 23, 2012 at 10:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

For all of you who have weddings coming up really soon, or have already had theirs, how many RSVP's did you receive by the deadline you gave?

We've had 46 out of 111 parties (42%) RSVP so far, and the deadline was on the 21st. Just curious if that's about normal, or if we have super slacker friends & family, haha. I plan to send out a follow-up email to the stragglers in about a week to confirm.

Just FYI for those who are still trying to figure out what they're going to do for RSVP's, we did the options of by phone or on our website. Obviously with what I assume are mediocre results so far.

Just so you know, that was a pretty early RSVP date. Maybe you have a lower turnout than normal because people aren't sure yet? I would follow up by phone to get an immediate answer...people are just as likely to ignore an email as they were your invitation!

I would say I got ~55 out of 85 before the RSVP date (which was last Monday) - about 35 of the 55 were mailed, not called in/website (though some people did all 3 lol). During the week last week, I got about 15 more responses, some of whom said they needed a little more time. So this week I have to track down about 15 people, which isn't toooo bad.

I agree with Katie Bug, your RSVP date was really early. I'd give it another couple of weeks before sending emails.

I did the early RSVP date for a couple of reasons. First, because we're inviting a large amount of people (215), I didn't want to be stressed for time making lots of phone calls in case like this. And second because it's essentially a destination wedding for 95% of the guests, so I assumed they'd appreciate the extra time to prepare (I can't imagine someone buying plane tickets right before they're supposed to go on a vacay, but who knows!).

Honestly, if they ignore my invitation AND follow-up email, I'll count them as not caring enough and not coming Smiley smile I plan to send a second follow-up email if I don't get responses from some from the first that says something along the lines of, "Since I didn't hear from you, I assume you won't be able to make it and count it as a decline"... But in a nice way of course Smiley winking

Juliette, that's not bad! I'm dreading having to call/email over 60 people... grrr. Hopefully some will remember to this week. But I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of them are just the "don't RSVP" type.

And like I said I'm waiting another week or so to call or send the emails, so they should know by then I figure!

Well that makes a little more sense then...gotcha! Be careful just assuming they're not coming...if they show up, how will you handle seats, catering, etc? I know it's like pulling teeth, but you need to be pretty much 100% sure of the final headcount...no guessing...

Yeah, ours in a destination wedding, and the hotel block discount ends Wednesday, which is why I wanted to make sure everyone was aware. But I guess a lot of people do wait to the last minute to book and that's ok -- we have probably 8 people who have asked for more time (ironically, they're not the friends coming from out of the country, but the ones here).

I think most people genuinely want to come share the wedding with you, but money can be tricky (especially early in the year) and they're "scared" of the reaction if they say no. In reality, once we hit our minimum headcount I've been routing for declines -- we can go to dinner after the wedding lol. I would give them a couple weeks to have the "ah-ha the deadline has passed" moment and see where you are then!

We got all but 5 RSVPs by our due date ... out of those 5 families, 4 belonged to the people my MIL invited...turns out, they RSVPd to her instead of mailing the damn thing back in...I wasn't too thrilled, but I guess I shouldn't have expected it any other way.

We just picked up the phone and called each of them..wasn't too difficult Smiley smile

We got all but 1 before the due date. But we only had the total of 45 guests. So I would say it's mediocre response. And we also had the RSVP date early for the same reasons.

We had about 56 different "households" I think, and I had recieved some form of an RSVP from everyone by the due date (this past Wednesday). Some people called, texted, or e-mailed us their response and then still mailed the official RSVP, just because they wanted to make sure we got their response on time.

Most of our guests are coming from out of town, so I think a lot of them knew pretty quickly whether or not they could afford the trip out here or not.

We invited 120 people (that # includes plus ones) and we will have a total of 93 people at the wedding, including FH and I Smiley smile

Looks like most of you have much better RSVP "rates" than we do! Oh well, I'll give them another 7-10 days and then start emailing/calling. Fingers crossed I don't still have 65 people left to call...

I think we had ~65-75 RSVP's out of 120 invites by the deadline. But - some we knew 100% weren't coming (we both have cousins we're not close to who live 900+ miles away), so we didn't worry about those. We did get a handful the week after the deadline, so I think we had to call/e-mail about 30 people overall.

We had about 75% of our RSVPs by the deadline. The rest we had to call.

Does your hotel block stop holding the discounted rooms at a certain date?

If it is a "destination" wedding, the friendly reminder that the reservation date is expiring might get a response out of them.

I understand your reasoning, but you did have an early date. Most of the ladies giving you their % were a rsvp of a month out. I'm sure if you start asking Feb 1st, your guests will have a better idea if they can make it.

    ~ good luck ~
