How many roses is too many?!!

Amanda, on May 9, 2015 at 12:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

One of the very first wedding things I wanted when I got engaged was a huge bouquet of red roses. I found a florist who quoted me a great price on a 40 rose bouquet. Sobering second thoughts here though; think 40 is too much?! I've tried googling 40 rose bouquets to see what it would look like but still have no clue! How many roses do you think are in my inspiration pic? How many did/are you using? I don't want my bouquet to be sooo massive that it blocks my entire dress for pics! Can you please share your bouquet pics and how many flowers are in em?!

40 roses is a HUGE bouquet and it will be really heavy. I only had 15 and it was heavy.

ETA: pic with my dad and my 15 rose bouquet.

Amanda, I'm with you on the red bouquet. This was the very first thing I decided on. I spoke with my florist we decided 30 is a good. Anything over that would be heavy.

ETA: The bouquet you have looks to be about 40. I like that size and may change mine from 30 to 40. Attached is a photo of the bouquet and absolutely love. However, I want it to be bigger. I workout. I can handle it.

Melissa- thanks for the pic! Your bouquet was beautiful! Kitandkaboodle- my red rose bouquet is how we picked our wedding colors! lol I may cut it back to 30... Just so it doesn't block my dress in pics. But I do love how full it looks with 40! I'm not worried about the weight; I work out too! lol oh, decisions! Still on the fence!

Just me, but I love big bridal bouquets. Especially when their done with red roses. I just may go larger than 40.

It depends on how big you are too. If you're tall, you will look nice with a big bouquet. I'm small so 10-15 roses is enough. Focus should be on YOU not your bouquet.

I'm having roses for my bouquet but I'm only having around 12-15 roses. I don't want to carry a big heavy bouquet. But that's just me.

I'm tall (5'10) so a big bouquet works for me. Personally, I want our guests to not just focus on me, but also on DH, the décor, our bridal party and the personal touches we include in the ceremony.

I never considered height for a moment! I'm short. 5'4. Hmmm... Maybe I should go with 30. I obviously don't want my guests to only focus on my massive bouquet! The huge rose bouquet is solely for me, not my guests! I never really pictured myself as a bride (raised by a man hater lol) but, I did swear that IF I ever did get married, I'd have the biggest rose bouquet anyone's ever seen!

    Wow, that is 12.

Melissa, are those standard roses? The blooms look so full

That's wider than her waist. Looks too big to me even though it's beautiful.

The number of roses is irrelevant without knowing other things like the size, the point they are in the bloom cycle, and how they are arranged. Ask her what the final diameter will be-- if it is larger than 10 or 12 inches, *then* you know its probably too big.

I counted 32 in that bouquet from what I could see. It could easily have 40. Ask your florist, they would have the best answer as to the size of it and whether it would be too big/heavy.

I think the bouquet you posted may have 40 or more roses. In a picture you usually count how many you can see and multiply by 2. But like Celia said, it depends on the type of rose, the size of the blooms, and your size. If you are petite 40 roses would overwhelm you. If you are a size 10/12 or larger probably not. It will be hard to judge from pictures unless it's a shot of a bride holding the bouquet naturally, not holding it out like in the photo you posted. That makes it look bigger because of the camera angle. You also don't know if the bride in the photos is a size 2, size 8, size 14...

Please don't discount the weight of that thing, and remember, your MOH will be holding not only her flowers but yours also for the entire ceremony. That's heavy!

@kristen I'm not sure if they are standard. I just asked for fully bloomed roses and that's what I got lol

Actually-- I think Kristen's right-- Melissa, your bouquet does look like it could be made from garden roses-- still roses, but they are much fuller and have more petals than standard roses.
