How many reception venues did you visit?

None! I had my reception venue in mind before I even got engaged! I just always knew I wanted to have it on Raspberry Island.

However, if it makes you feel better, I have no idea where I want to have my ceremony.

We checked out around seven places before we stopped looking... we originally looked at six places and had it narrowed down to one, though we weren't completely happy with it... then we ended up going to an "open house" bridal show at a venue and completely fell in love with it, we signed the very next day

We looked at 5 places and before we went to my brothers venue (which ended up being the one we loved). So 6 in all.

I think 3 places. I went to one hotel alone and then I planned a day with my FSIL where we went back to that hotel and two others. The first one we went to that day had me absolutely sold....when I brought FS to see it he agreed and we commenced to getting 2008 rates for a 2010 wedding!

We went to 16. When we started, we had no clue what to expect. So I basically utilized weddingwire to view numerous wedding location websites, started calling them to get more info. and setting up appointments. To be honest, it's most beneficial to go to a good amount of them because it was very easy for us to use the comps we had as leverage when finally negotiating with the location we picked. Had we not done all the research first, I would not be having the wedding we just booked, only because there were so many additional things that I was able to negotiate it that previously didn't know were even options. My daughter looked at two. The first on, in my opinion was tacky. Her MIL, of cours, loved it.

We ended up booking a hotel. A friend of mine is the Food & Beverage Manager there, so we got a great deal on a classy location.

PS...the tacky venue was spendy....$2200 just for space rental!

The classy hotel ran us $4000....that included all of the food (cocktail hour and dinner); the ceremony and reception rooms; lunch delivered to the bridal party in their suites before photos; the two suites themselves; and some of the bar tab.

Can I say too many? I would about 15 before we picked what we picked..

Seven I think? Maybe more, seems like a lot more lol.

None for us. The reception after the ceremony was just a luncheon. We had a bunch of gift cards for Legal Sea Foods, so we just booked the private dining room of the nearest Legal Sea Foods without ever visiting it.

For the reception back home, a friend owned a private club that I was already familiar with. He gave us a great deal on rental, so we didn't even consider anything else.

Because our wedding was in Massachusetts, and we live in DC, we didn't even see our ceremony venue before we arrived for the ceremony. However, we did see pictures. And we were able to talk to the rabbi to figure out things like how much room there was for our chuppah.

We only visited two locations before we made a decision. We did a lot of research online before we went out looking, though.

It is always a great idea to visit around five to 7 venues before making your decision because in Houston, venus vary in price and level and services. You want to be sure to make the best decision, as it is a major investment.
