How Many Photographers Should You Have On Your Wedding Day?

Kylee, on October 19, 2020 at 5:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Our wedding is 2 years away, but in order to know how our budget is going to be, we need to decide on how many photographers we need. We've been told on here before to get 2 photographers, but we're worried that might be too expensive. Not that we can't afford it, but we just don't know if it's necessary to spend all that money on 2 for the type of wedding we're having. We're having a small, intimate brunch wedding, our guest count is most likely going to be around 50 people which may sound like a lot but in reality, it's much smaller compared to other weddings. We just have no idea how many photographers would be best for our wedding. How many would you recommend for us? Thank you in advance!

Ideally 2 would be nice but even just one is fine too

We had 2 photographers for our 41 person wedding (cake and punch reception), and let me tell you that it was so worth it. It cut down on the photography time since they could divide and conquer for any photos that we weren't both in (bridesmaids/groomsmen, individual portraits, some family photos). They were also able to get different angles and the second shooter was able to capture our guests while the main photographer was taking pictures of things like our first dance. We would have been fine with just one photographer, but we loved having that extra time to spend with guests rather than pictures taking longer.

I’m having a second shooter to capture different angles and photos that would be impossible to get with just one photographer.

As a photographer, I said at least 2 if you can afford them. One is okay, but I admit it’s so tough capturing the exact moments when it happens.

I would definitely recommend two just to make sure multiple angles are covered, but one should be fine as well! Many photographers either include a second shooter in the package, or offer it as an add on to the package. If a second shooter is an option, and it's in the budget, I say go for it!

2 photographers are the best option so you will have different angles covered. Try finding a photographer that includes a second shooter in their package. Most of them do not charge extra for the second shooter.

I'd suggest 2. Having 2 photographers allows you to get the same shot from different angles, for example your fiancés face when you walk down the aisle and your face when you're walking down the aisle. We had 2 photographers and I am so glad we did because they were able to capture so much that a single photographer could not have.
