How many invitations got lost in the mail?

Kelly, on May 22, 2016 at 6:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I've talked to a few families that claim their invitations never arrived. I know the addresses were right, but they must have have gotten lost in the mail. Out of 65 invitations, at least 2 completely disappeared in transit and were never even returned to sender.

I guess the point of my post is two-fold:

1) To find out what ratio of disappearing invitations everyone else had.

2) To serve as a PSA that sometimes invitations get lost, so always follow up with your invited guests.

We aren't sending out invites until mid July but we had 3 save the dates get lost in the mail out of the 100 we sent

My brother and my best friend had some lost. I have often sent birthday cards to my cousins in America and they haven't arrived.

Praying this doesn't happen to me but I definitely had Christmas cards get lost in the mail this past year...

2 got lost, and only 1 returned. It definitely happens, so this is the only excuse for a fb, phone call, email, and or text rsvps I'll except.

We had one guest not get theirs, but I guess their post man is lazy/ doesn't do his job so they were not surprised.

We had one of ours returned to us without the outer envelope and it was pulled apart with the rsvp envelope taped to the front. A few days later the outer envelope got returned. Thankfully I numbered the rsvp cards so we knew who to call.

I had an RSVP show up 2 months after the wedding! It looked like it had been through hard travels.

None lost. But 1 RSVP did not make it back to me. It was my MOH we both have issues with our mailman though and talk about how much they suck once a week lol

It seems lately a lot of stuff has been getting lost in the mail... its gotten worse than I remember it before. There has to be like a village of lost mail somewhere in an alternate universe where lost mail goes to live out their existance in peace and harmony...

I'm wondering the same thing! I just found out from a relative today that she didn't get her invitation. Her daughter, who is at the same address, got hers weeks ago. Grrrrr! Also, my uncle got his invitation 4 days after his daughter got hers and they live in the same house. We sent save the dates, so, I'm hoping I'll hear from people if their invite doesn't show up. Some of my save the dates were also lost in the mail. I sent 3 save the dates to the same address (for different people) and only 2 showed up. I wonder how many others were lost.

None of ours were lost. In the four years I worked in shipping, only two or three parcels were ever lost in transit through USPS. I'm sorry a few of yours were lost, but it really is pretty rare.

To minimize the risk, it's a good idea to double check addresses with your guests, double check the postage with USPS, and make sure they're all well sealed. And yes, double checking that your guests received them is a great idea too.
