How many hairstyles do you get at a hair trial?

Patricia, on June 2, 2011 at 11:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

This is 4 wks after the fact, but I've been absent from WW. I paid for a hair & makeup trial at my venue (w/its award-winning spa). Initially thought I'd want it half up/down and admittedly did not ask if it was possible to try a 2nd style at the time (she didn't offer). 1.5hrs after the trial my hair was tousled/frizzy and it wasn't even windy! We're getting married outside and if the same thing happens the day of the wedding, my hair will be messy BEFORE we take pics BEFORE the ceremony.

I called the spa 1.5hr after I left while I was still in town&they assured me they'd use a better hairspray the day of my wedding. I told her I can't put my trust in that and decided that an updo would be more reliable. I was hoping they'd have me come back right then or comp me another hair trial- not so. So now I have to either make the 1.5hr drive to our venue for another hair trial (at least they said they'd charge me for a style not bridal trial) OR wing it the day of my wedding. Ugh!

You only get one style at a trial. However, you were not happy with it.

With an outdoor ceremony, I wouldn't have your hair down. While it may suck tomake the drive back, they did exactly what was expected. They want to do another trial, at a reduced price. That's a pretty good option in my book.

I offer my brides as many different looks at the trial until we find one they like. They definitely should have used the exact same hair spray on your hair as they plan to do on the day of the wedding. A trial should be EXACTLY as it will be on the wedding day.

I would definitely opt for an updo for an outdoor wedding. Wind is always a consideration and having your hair blowing around at the ceremony or in photos is no fun.

If you do go back for another trial, keep at them until it is exactly as you want it. Then tell them you are stepping outside for a few moments to check it out. If you can, tell them you plan to go to lunch and if it's not holding up, you will be back to discuss other options. Use that lunch time break to assess your hair outside and this way, you can go right back to them if you find it's not working for you. PS: Take photos of your hair immediately after they are finished, then an hour or so later to show them whether it's holding or not.

Thanks all for the input! I'm definitely going to go w/an updo. Stephanie, thank you especially for the details/how-to.

My stylist did 1 trial, but then we played with it a bit and changed a few things. generally, i think if you wanted a whole other new trial, I would anticipate them charging extra.

Also, they have a schedule and booked clients, unless it were a slow day, i doubt any salon could just drop their cshedule to give you another trial right then and there-since that would probably take 1-2 hours they already have booked (and it wouldnt be fair for the booked clients to get pushed out cause of you)

It was a very slow day- in the hour and a half we were there I was the only one getting her hair done.
