How many cake servings per person?!

BunBuns, on March 12, 2013 at 7:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We are getting 4 different cake options. We shouldn't expect guests to eat one of each flavor.. should we?

How many servings should we get?

The link didn't work, so I don't know how many cakes you are having. When I planned our wedding, I ordered for a generous slice of each cake (wedding and groom's cake) for each guest. However, because I only had 62 guests, I instructed the catering staff to cut as needed so it didn't dry out sitting on a plate.

At my daughter's wedding, since they had a dessert buffet, the wedding cake was cut and boxed supposedly enough for each guest to take home. However, they ran out, which ticked me off.

If you are having different cakes, I am a little piggie. The older I get, the more I want dessert and I would have to sample every cake, even if it was a sliver.

Ahh maybe I should have them cut the pieces small so people can have a bit of each?

I would say 1-2 slices per person. They can even make them small slices. And Carole M, thanks for the advice about cutting to order. I planned on having them cut a lot of the cake at the beginning (when they would be getting innundated with cake hungry guests) then having them cut to order beyond that. That way, they don't get overwhelmed at the beginning, but the cakes don't dry out too much.

I slice each. After they have been cut, the waiters alternate the flavors on the table so people can share, switch or keep! By that time of the night, no one is going to have more than one piece,if that.

Soontobemrsk....Thanks! My thoughts on keeping the cake on plates is that I didn't want dry leftovers. ; )

Everyone I know must be big eaters because at our wedding and at my daughter's wedding, people had more than one slice of cake and none was wasted. Heck, at my daughter's dessert bar, I saw some guests with three slices. OINK : )

Celia, I adore you, but if you're offering me cake, especially after dancing, I am going to eat it. And if you offer me 4 different flavors, I'd like to try all four, thank you very much. Maybe that makes Carole and I piglets. I'd be happy with small slices, though!

LOL I am a piggy with you guys! I would personally want tot ry all 4 options if I was guest (as I do as the bride) haha.

However, there is no way we are getting 4 slices per guest. .. too expensive!
