How many bridal shower games should I have?

desirae , on April 9, 2014 at 9:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

There will be about 40 people. We already have 3 games picked out but would like to know if that's just right or what do you think?

1. Who has the groom? Takes a few seconds. It's opening an envelope to see who has the groom? Obviously whoever has him wins a prize.

2. What's in your purse? The person with the most items wins a prize

3. He said or she said ? The person who gets the most right also gets a prize

That's plenty. You certainly don't need any more.

You're good. Allow your guests to mingle.

How about skipping #2. It's pretty lame.

    Three is more than enough.

If the purpose is to get a large group to mingle, you can swap out one of the games for What Am I?:

Write a bunch of wedding words on index cards - bride, groom, cake, bouquet, altar, etc. Stick the cards on people's backs without telling them what the cards say. When you say go, people pair off and ask each other one yes or no question about what's on their card. "Am I a person?" "Am I something you eat?" etc. You get one question, then you have to find a new partner. First person to guess what they are wins. This game doesn't take too long, and it's a good icebreaker.

I hate games so I think the game portion will be minimal at mine but I think anymore than 3 and people will get bored.

If it was up to me there would be no games but I know how bummed the bride would be if there were no games. She a HUGE fan of games. Thanks ladies.

    You're welcome.

I would definitely swap out one of the games for something that involves moving around - all of the games you have involve sitting down, and people are already going to be sitting and watching the bride open gifts (which is going to take an hour or up with that many people). That's a long time to have your butt planted in a chair.

Forty people is almost my entire wedding! We're not doing games I think they're dumb, but if the bride likes them I think you have plenty.

Can I suggest a better game than find the groom? You write a story about either the bride's first date or how the couple met and include the terms right and left a lot.

Have someone hand out a bag to a person at each table and then as you read the story the table hands the bag right or left depending on what you are saying. It's a good ice breaker and it involves the table but doesn't feel silly.

Lol. I want five to seven, so I don't think you have too many.
