How many bartenders?

Lara, on June 25, 2015 at 11:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

In all the iterations of my contract, we've had one bartender. Today my caterer says we need two (at $35/hr for 8 hours each). We have always known we will have about 100 guests (we are at 98). I think one per 50 guests sounds reasonable, I'm just super irritated that this came up 8 days out. How many bartenders are you having and for how many guests?

    I think we have 4 for 200 guests? Either 3 or 4.

I believe we are having 3 or 4 for 175 guests. I think two is good for 100 guests.

Ok, cool, so our ratios are the same.

My invite list is at 85. I'm having 2 bartenders. But I also have a milkshake bar so that could be the reason 2 are coming.

I had the same issue. They were only providing 1 bartender for 160 guests! We negotiated before we made the last payment and they agreed on 3.

I think you should be fine with 2. Most bartending companies have told me 1 per every 50 guest and some have said 1 is enough for per every 100 guests. I'm expecting 30-70 people and some people don't drink I know for a fact so I'm having 1.

100 people is a lot for one bartender....2 is good. You have to figure that they are also working as each other's support...replenishing mixers and garnishes, washing glasses, getting ice. If you have one bartender then that means he/she will have to do all that ON TOP of serving 100 guests. Its a lot of work.

Are you having a full bar or limited? We're just having 1 for about 100 people, but we're doing beer and wine only and maybe a signature drink that can be pre-mixed.

MrsBtoB, yeah, 1 for 160 seems like not enough.

Maltese, good point. At first I was thinking we only have 60 drinkers but obviously sober people will need soft drinks and juice as well.

We have 1 per every 50 guests. I am inviting around 125 people, so if they all say yes, we will have to add a 3rd bartender.

@Monica Wow, that seems extreme! But they should be quick at least. @Lara I went to a wedding a couple months ago that had at least 300 people and 2 bartenders at 1 bar. People started pulling out flasks as they stood in line, cocktail hour was a mess lol. I wasn't having it.

Our venue told us one per 75 people and we originally planned on having 80 people and two bartenders. Our friends are drinkers and did not want a line building up. We are now up to about 110 people and two bartenders.

One for every 50, and do a table of wine/sig drinks/ champagne at the beginning or waiters with trays to cut the initial lines at the bar.
