How long was your wedding video??

Ours was about 4 minutes. Most of the ones I've seen on VIMEO are from 4-6 minutes. Some are longer. If yours is 20 minutes, I wouldn't call that a bit short.

Ours was 7:44, so you're getting quite a lot! I bet it's going to be great! =)

Ours is about 15 minutes. I'm hoping he still gives us the raw footage of our ceremony and all the speeches though.

We got 2 videos, the "trailer" which was about 3:30 long and the full home video which is 20 minutes. The trailer we only got a link and the home video an actual DVD...Is that not normal??

My Mexican family usually like having all the dance on video to sit down later and watch everyone dancing. (mostly raw coverage of the dance)

OP though I know the high light videos are usually shorter but you would think the final cut would be a little longer than that IMO.

Check your contract. When I was looking at videographers, most packages were either just a 3-5 min trailer, 3-5 min trailer with half hour edited or 3-5 minute trailer with an hour edited video. In some cases the full raw was also put on DVD. If you want the trailer on DVD, ask for it, but if it's in your contract as only being a link, he could charge extra.

VMD - We paid $350 and it was his first wedding. I don't want to sound ungrateful, i just have no idea of how long they usually are.

That sounds long to me. We're not doing videography, but some of the photography companies we've looked at offer it. The longest video I've seen listed in a videography package was 15 minutes.

Well, I have seen videos of the whole wedding. I plan on doing that, I have a whole village in Africa wanting to see this video (i'm not exaggerating)....so I'm thinking it'll be about an hour-hour and a half after editing and cutting out the unnecessary footage.

But i've also seen those vimeo clips that are no more than 5 mins long. I love them!

Diana - I believe you. My cousin got married to an African man and oh boy!!! Lol They come in large groups....Her wedding gift from his parents was land in Africa...pretty dope!

McKay - It was his first wedding so he helped us out money wise and I helped him start this new wedding journey he wanted. It was a win/win.

It really depends on your wedding and style. As my experience for some like indian, persian, oriental weddings, if I provide them less than 4-5 hours wedding video they probably take me to the court! Seriously, some people like everything should include in the wedding video, I mean EVERYTHING.

But my recommendation is, just asking your videographer 10-15 minute short version beside what he/she will provide for final delivery.

Wow...only 20 minutes?? We haven't gotten ours back yet but we should get a highlights reel and then also a full length movie that includes the entire ceremony (so that's 30 minutes right there), speeches (another 10 minutes or so), dances (10 ish minutes probably), and then all the things in between. So I think in the end it will be about 1-1.5 hours. In the preview he showed us before we booked it had different chapters for the ceremony and cocktail hour, etc. And I think that sample was over an hour. We're also getting all of the raw footage.

However, we did pay over $2k for the videographer, so maybe for $350 20 minutes is reasonable...but still a little strange to me.
