How long of a veil do I need with my dress?

OG Brittany, on March 21, 2016 at 2:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Ok, so I decided on getting a veil just for the ceremony and MAYBE a few pictures. However, how long of a veil should I get? I was thinking maybe mid hip length? The back of my dress has such an elaborate train that I don't want the veil to take away from it in the least bit. Help!

ETA: I should also add that my main hair accessory is a pearl encrusted hair clip. I just want the veil for the ceremony, and would revert to the clip for the rest of the day.

My vote would be a veil matching the length of your train but just the tulle - no lace on the edges or sparkle. I think it would accentuate the length of the train and create a gorgeous timeless look. At the same time, I prefer long veils over shorter ones but I think it would look stunning.

I LOVE your dress, btw! What designer is it?

I think either a fingertip-length (one layer, to show off the back) or cathedral length would be ideal. Anything in-between is going to cut off that gorgeous train! You can get some cathedral lengths with lace so they lie longer than the train and add an extra halo of lace around the train, if you want to amp up the effect even more. Otherwise, raw edge would look great!

I don't know if I would do a cathedral length veil...your train is very pretty and I imagine it will be bustled later, right? So people may not get the full effect of the dress with a cathedral length... I would go fingertip length...

Thank you all for the input! I was really lost on where to go with the length!

@Emilyg Thank you! it is Maggie Sottero. I thought I had my heart set on a Stella York dress, and then this one popped up. =)

I would do hip length. I didn't want my dress length and veil length to compete or look like one is JUUUST a hair longer than the other. I would not do cathedral.

I agree with fingertip or elbow. It won't compete at all. At first I thought a short veil would look silly with my cathedral train but when I started looking at pictures online it was my favorite silhouette, especially for the ceremony pictures.

I would also vote for fingertip length veil - that way it won't distract from the beautiful train. I have a long-ish train as well and I went with this length and it looks great together.

Lol - should've known, I'm obsessed with her lace dresses (got the Viera myself! I can't rock that back like you do)

@Emilyg: so exciting I will have to google that specific dress! And, girl trust me, this was the 1 flattering shot, there's plenty that show my back fat. lol

I was thinking fingertip so it doesn't cover the train but I also am a fan of cathedral length. Either way its gorgeous

I literally just tried on this dress today!!! If I buy it in going to modify it to be strapless and I tried on a fingertip veil and it was beautiful. Great dress

Cathedral length! My plain, raw edge cathedral veil was $35 on Etsy. $39.50 after shipping and tax. Blanca Veils. :-)

Honestly, with such a great keyhole back and such a beautiful train, I would wear a birdcage. I wouldn't want anything distracting from the gorgeous back details.
