How long is your cocktail hour?

CN&AK, on October 20, 2014 at 5:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 36

For me,

ceremony starts 4:30

then, cocktail hour is across the street (10 minute walk, 2 minute drive if they know where they are going Smiley laugh)

Reception ballroom door opens at 6pm and it's the one floor up from cocktail hour area.

Too little time?

what about you all?

I don't think its too little. I also have hour/ half (3:30pm- 5pm). Long enough for the venue to flip the ballroom around from ceremony to reception and for us to take pictures at a near by site. Cocktail hour is in the art gallery of the hotel so guest don't have to go far. I don't want guest too drunk or too full from horsdoeuvres before dinner.

Most of my morning weddings do 45 minutes; most of the evening ones do an hour to 1.5 hours.

Just over an hour. I have a small wedding party so we are just going to take a few photos and join cocktail hour, then, when everyone sits for dinner, we will be officially introduced.

Ours will come out just under an hour. Ceremony starts at 5:30 and reception is (hopefully) starting at 7:00, but cocktail hour is in the garden of the hotel and the ceremony and reception are at the penthouse, so it might take some time for all of our guests to take the elevators down and back up.

6-7. Shortened a bit when the ceremony ran long.

I am having my ceremony outside in the "backyard" of the barn where I am having the reception. The ceremony will start around 4pm and dinner wont begin until 6pm. So my cocktail hour is whenever the ceremony is over until we are announced which I am saying will be about 545pm or so. The time in between will be our photo opp because I will not allow him to see me before the wedding and it allows them to tear down the "alter area" and move the chairs inside, also it allows our guest time to chat. There will be the open bar and very light ore dervs. I don't want anyone to get too full or drunk.

Our "cocktail hour" is planned for 30 minutes. We're doing the majority of our photos beforehand.
