How long does it take to order a wedding dress?

Sarinis, on August 26, 2016 at 7:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

By the time I lose the weight I want to, it will be five to six months before the wedding. Is this enough time to get a dress?

I think it depends on where you get your dress from. My dress just came in from David's Bridal, and it took about six weeks. But other bridal shops may take several months and you want to leave extra time for alterations.

I agree with Beachy, it really depends where you're getting your dress. My dress was ordered last November and just came in a few weeks ago in July.

I ordered my dress in April and it just came in. Most places will charge you a rush fee if you are less than 6 months out.

Not sure about individual shops, but I ordered mine from

David's bridal and it came in about 3 weeks. I was surprised!

It really just depends. I got mine at a smaller boutique where they order from the designer and it's taking a full 6 months to get it. I think you can rush order, but it's more expensive.

I've heard it can take 6 months. I'm just going to order mine smaller and hope I got into it in a year.

I would go try and get a dress no less than 6 months, and remember you can always have it taken in, but never order smaller! Because there's always a chance it won't work

Even at David's it depends on the dress. Some are cut to order. Like Vera and Oleg.

How much do you want to lose? Depending on the size the next size down is generally a matter of 10 to 20 lbs. and most alterations shops will be able to take down up to 2 sizes. If your goal is more than 20 I'd wait. But it would also help to talk to your alterations specialist to see what they would suggest for sizing based on your specific body type, the dress and your goals.

Depending on where you go depends on when you will get your dress. Mine took 5 months but my friend (who ordered her dress at the same boutique) didn't get her dress for 9 months. Every designer is different

I think it depends on the designer/style/store.

I went for my mine 7 months before my wedding date and they said it wasn't a good idea to order, because it may not be in in time.

However, they had a TON to choose from in their "in stock" room, and I got to take my dress home the same day Smiley smile

I think this a conversation you need to have with your bridal shop

Mine came after 14 days from David's Bridal BUT don't get your hopes up because of this. Ask your bridal shop and your consultant to direct you towards designs that can arrive without within your time-frame.

So many factors can come into play, including designer, where the dress is shipping from, time of year, and if the designer keeps the dress in stock or makes it to order. Also complicating things is that many dresses are made in China which is impacted by Chinese New Year when many factories completely shut down, thus lengthening the time it may take to ship (with your wedding being in May 2017, felt it was I to to mention that one). To be on the safe side, it's best to allow 6-8 months.
