How long did you wait for a vendor to respond?

Future Mrs. B, on September 7, 2018 at 9:25 AM Posted in Planning 0 13
I am almost done confirming my vendors for my 10/12/19 wedding. I know I am early but spots are filling up fast. My last vendor to book is my tent/table/chair rental. I have contacted the vendor we wanted twice to ask prices and for general information, both times he was very friendly and informative. I am ready to book with this company and I can't get him to call me back or email me the contract. I have called 3 times and left voicemails. I even contacted him through the Facebook page seconds after a Labor Day post was made but received no response. I am not naturally a patient person and the guy did tell me the rental business is not his full time job so I am trying to extend the benefit of the doubt. My FH also mentioned that he maybe on vacation and to give it another week. I am nervous and it makes me a little leary of the service he might provide. How long should I wait to hear back from this company?

I don’t wait longer than 3 business days. It’s not hard to send an email.

Hi Kristen! I completely understand your concern with this. That is very odd that he wouldn't respond about you wanting to go with his business. You have some time being that your wedding isn't for over a year still, so you could wait another week or so, like your FH said? If there's still no answer, weighing other rental options would be a completely justifiable option at that point.

During wedding season, I waited two weeks just in case anything weird was going on for them!

You have a little over a year for your wedding, so waiting one more week won’t hurt. After that, I would move on.

We are in the middle of wedding season. I don’t think spamming will help the situation honestly. I’d give it another week or 2 & then try following up again!

Sending multiple messages at one time may be deemed undesireable. I was just saying to give it some time before your next response. You could possibly also ask to schedule a call or meet.

Given the overwhelming number of similar providers, I wouldn't wait around for someone who can't be bothered to return a phone call within a reasonable amount of time - especially from someone who wants to book. Unless he's super cheap, I can't see the reason not to find someone more responsive.

I called the vendor again because the last time I was able to speak to the man in charge was on Sunday (and I have no chill). The new voicemail at the business directs the caller to text or call the business owners personal cell. I am mostly fed up, I sent a text asking him to call me or text me back and that if I don't hear back by Friday I will persue renting from a different company. Although I am pretty annoyed at this point.

Well it worked...he sent me a text back. I hate threatening anyone to do anything...but I guess a bit of backbone goes a long way.

Update on the update, the vendor sent me an invoice that had additional charges for items we told him we didn't want or need and a larger tent then originally discussed. I am calling other rental companies tomorrow this is pretty much the last straw.

I just booked with another company, which was cheaper and much more responsive. I can tick that off the list!
