How long did it take you to find your dress? Or do you have a dress shopping story?

Early on he and I watched say yes to the dress and he was horrified that anyone feels less than gorgeous when trying on wedding dresses, let alone is told some of the horrible things he heard on the show. I assured him that people are really told similar things even if it is hyped for TV. This is a second wedding for us both so I've been in bridal salons and heard it myself. He gave me the most stunned face and gentle kiss and said he'd take me. I laughed, but sure enough...

When the time came, I brought my df to the bridal store to look at dresses, just to get an idea of his preferences. I wasn't planning on choosing one. He's the sweetest and most romantic guy, but he's got preferences. I have to say we wandered around and I heard a lot of "too poofy" and "why would anyone wear something so heavy?" I laughed and reminded him that people have different tastes. He shook his head. I paused and told him that I had wondered about this one dress I saw... He looked at it and smiled, teared up and said that's the one. I reminded him that on me it could look really different. I'm not built like a mannequin.

Still, without him, I made an appointment at that store to try on dresses and asked for that one. I knew it wouldn't fit or look right. 5 dresses and 3x of wanting to put that dress back on - I'd found the one! He was right all along. Smiley smile I ordered it and never looked back.

I hope some of you have stories to tell too! No pictures, but my dress already came in.

That sounds like such a cute story Smiley smile
I don't have a story as I went shopping by myself and eventually got my dress online. I just wanted to do my own thing and even though at the end of the day it is up to me to decide I just didn't want to be told differing opinions from people with different tastes. I'm very happy with what I chose though
I agree that any person will look beautiful no matter what dress they choose because the dress isn't what's making the bride glow that day Smiley smile

I went to 3 shops over 3 months! I probably tried on over 50 dresses, then I found the one!

That’s such a great story! FH sounds like a wonderful guy. I wanted to keep my entourage small with my sisters and aunts. Then my cousin, FMIL, and FSIL all wanted to come, so it was a bit overwhelming with all those opinions. I knew I wanted a princess type dress and they got a few and I think I tried on about 6-7 dresses in total but kept going back to 2 dresses. I always said I wanted white, but this light pink dress was so pretty. It was between that and a full glitter tulle gown that I ended up choosing as I thought the pink would be more suited for prom. When shopping with my sister 2 years earlier in the same shop, I had seen some dresses with the glitter tulle and fell in love with them so that was kind of full circle/affirmation that I still wanted the same type 2 years later.

    Such a cute story!

The cutest story I have is holding a 'dress reveal' for my mom and mother-in-law once my dress came in (online). That was absolutely precious and gave mom her "moment" after horrible in-store dress shopping...

Love your story! I initially didn't like the dress I ended up ordering. My heart was set on something totally different, but my entourage didn't think it was me. I tried on my dress again and wasn't completely in love, but said yes to it. I love my dress now! I agree that it's so me and I'm glad I listened!

My dress was the second dress I tried on. I went shopping 13 months before my wedding just to look around and try on different silhouettes at a local bridal shop, then I actually already had an appointment at Kleinfeld (I live in CT so really close to NYC) about a month later. Well I ended up falling in love and finding my dress at that first appointment and never went to Kleinfeld lol.

What a cute story! Smiley smile I went to three different shops and tried on about 25 dresses. I thought I liked three that were all completely different, but I just couldn't spend the money. Luckily I found a dress that was almost identical to the $1,200+ one, and it was in my size for half the price so I was able to take it home that day! I'm not giving my groom any idea of what it'll be like Smiley winking

I only went to one store; David's Bridal. My sister got her dress there two years ago and so we figured we would start there! I went with my mom and sisters (Matron and Maid of Honor) and I only tried on 5 dresses. I loved my dress as soon as I saw it, but putting it on was even better! It took less than 45 minutes total, and I bought my matching veil the same day. I cried, as did my mom and sisters. That's how I knew it was the one! I can't wait to show my fiancé in 62 days Smiley laugh

My mom and I went on a whim when David's Bridal was having a sale. We were ONLY there to look at the bargains... well there was nothing I liked. So I decided to try a few different styles on just to get a feel for what I felt comfortable in. I had only been engaged for like... a month and a half... I never thought I would buy a traditional dress, or spend more than $100. I was convinced I would keep it simple... Tried on 5 dresses, the 2nd one I tried one was "IT" and DEFINITELY not on sale... we bought it that day!

I guess I was one of the lucky ones as well, it was the very first dress I tried on. I tried a few others after just to see if there was anything else but my heart was set on that one haha! Talk about a stress free wedding dress shopping experience!

My friend was getting married in March so I went with her to her final fitting at a lovely consignment shop and made an appointment for after her appointment. I didn’t think I would find a dress, but I had never tried on wedding dresses and I trusted my friend to help me and I knew I wanted her to be my bridesmaids. I knew I wanted a ballgown so we picked all the Ball gowns which ended up being about 5. I told the consultant that I think lace is pretty, but I don’t really want it for me. There was a full lace dress and my friend convinced me to try it on anyway. Since I knew I wouldn’t like it I tried it on first and it was my favorite dress. I didn’t like any of the other ones and knew I had to try on the first one again and decided then to buy it. Glad I changed my mind and tried it on. FH kinda saw it because I was getting anxious and showed him with the dress bag on and just opened the zipper so he couldn’t really see that much of it since most of it was blocked, but I felt much better.

That's so cute! I picked out a dress that no one would've thought I'd wear; I just can't wait until my FH sees it!

I went by myself. I fell in love with the second dress I tried on. I got emotional with that one and felt my Mama's presence from Heaven...so I knew that was the one.
Luckily, it was on sale and fell inline with my budget❤
I tried on 3 dresses in total...but nothing compared to "mine"
That is awesome that your Fiancee was right on the money! He will be so surprised when he sees you in it!Smiley smile

I went to look with my future Best Woman while on vacation, so that we could find something for her together, and so that I would have an idea of what I wanted when I went shopping “for real” closer to home and fell in love. I picked dresses that had elements I liked, and after getting my feedback, the consultant went and pulled a sample from the clearance rack ....in my size and That needed no alterations (as long as I was willing to wear heels and an a-line slip) other than having a bustle added. They also fixed some loose beading and a hole in the tulle I found for free. I never would have imagined I’d pick a sleeveless fluffy sequined ballgown.

I only took my mom with me and went to one store and it was the first dress I tried on. (I am having the off the shoulder sleeves altered to go all the way up to the top of my shoulder... also it won’t be so lowcut once it comes in my actual size, I couldn’t really pull it up because it was such a small sample size).

I went to the Kleinfeld sample sale a week after I got engaged. Went with 3 friends and we basically pretended I was a life-size doll. The sales girl took a shine to us (...we found out we were all theatre people, which is why), and she looked at my favorites list. She broke all kinds of rules and just started bringing us dresses (she wasn't supposed to do that), and my friends would just whip me in and out of them. We had mental lists of what we liked, kept the ones that were at a certain level and sent back the others.

Then our new friend popped one in to the stall. I said, "oh, I'm going to like this one more than I want to," and we got me into it.

Went to look. Got it clipped in place and one friend started to cry. "We lost Friend!" But then my second friend started to cry. Third friend came over to hug me and remind me that I wasn't just getting this dress for the (then) ceremony venue, but for me. *I* started to cry, and so did she. We told the sales girl my past, and SHE started to cry.

The dress also happened to be 90% off, so, one week after getting engaged, I walked out of a designer pop-up shop with my dress. It's at the alterations, now.
