How long before your wedding did your man pick out his suit?

NotAllWhoWanderAreLost, on February 10, 2015 at 1:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

I was under the impression that suits did not need to be picked out for the groom/groomsmen/ushers/dads until 3-4 months before the wedding. But, FH is in a wedding 2 weeks before ours, and just told me that he got an email saying that he needs to buy his suit this week.

Which got me thinking, should FH and I be pushing our groomsmen to get their suits?

Also, how much did your suit rental cost? (This guy was saying that FH's suit rental was going to be $200 after the discount, which sounded like a ton of money to me, that is twice as much as the bridesmaids dresses I had my girls buy!)

FH hasn't even gone looking for suits yet. We know that they are going to wear grey suits. And that we aren't making them rent vests or cumber-buns or anything. And FH is buying and giving all of them ties. FH is going to wear a vest he already has so that he is a little bit different from everyone else. And our officiant is going to wear a black suit and we are giving him the same tie.

We just selected and set up a time for initial fittings a month from now. We have a large wedding party so we are trying to get it out of the way, and set up now.

Our rentals cost $145 for a suit, vest, shirt and slacks. We are providing ties for them and they are wearing their own shoes.

We actually went to look right around Black Friday and ended up putting a deposit down a week later. I took my dad last weekend to get fitted for his and they didn't have his shoe size in stock for that day, so that's something I'm going to have to raise hell about

ETA: Tux rental came out to $175 for the whole ensemble

He just started looking this weekend actually. He's gonna have a hard time finding it that's for sure. He's going to look different from his GM and the suit he wants its popular with celebrities NOW and stores don't seem to carry it yet.

@furturemrs.l - so are all of your guys going together for the fittings? I always thought that for the guys FH would try somethings on, and then he would just give his guys the name of the store, and the name of the suit.

Also, if you went to a big chain, where did you go?

Some places are different. FH picked his out SUPER early - but fittings didn't have to be done until the end of Feb. We have friends getting married in March and they didn't get fitted until end of Jan but they had used a different store than us.

Rentals cost 210 (I think) and that includes everything (Tux, Shoes, Vest, Ties etc).

I need to check this off my list soon! FH and I went looking at a tux rental store this past weekend, but he wasnt feeling well and we were having trouble with colors so we went home. We plan to go again this weekend for mid march at the latest. Im worried that prom season could be an issue for us.

Fh just went at the end of January. He is wearing grey and ordered them right then and there. with a $40 discount they are still going to cost $200. I thought it was crazy, they are vera wang and apparently the only tuxs that they had in grey. All of his guys said that was fine, as they only have the bachelor party to pay for (which FH will not let them pay for him, he will pay his way) and the tux. on the other hand, as a girl, you have nails, hair, makeup, dress, shoes, bridal shower, and bach party. (obviously those are not all must haves but I would want that if I was in someone elses wedding)

FH just went last weekend and picked his out. Mostly because we went to a bridal fair and if you set up an appointment within two weeks of the bridal fair you got a $60 discount. His rental with the discount is $170 for the tux, shirt, vest, bowtie, shoes, and cufflinks.

Fh already owns a suit. The best man already owns a suit. And the one other GM will be buying a suit, he is FH's brother in 9th grade and is buying one to wear to prom. Pointless to rent for 4 years.

I say it's not too early. Sooner the better.

Mine picked out his suit a year before we got engaged! Lol hes wearing a suit he already has. I did want to point out that last week there was a post saying that jc penney is having a sale on their suits and you could get a very nice suit for 100 - 150 dollars. Worth a look maybe....

We had my FH pick out everything, and they are all going to get measured at one time. (At least those who are in state) It was easier for us to make sure things got done in a timely manner and get professionally measured. I keep hearing horror stories about guys measuring themselves.

We are in Colorado and went with Al's Formal Wear (they are mid-sized here), they were about $60 cheaper than Mens Wearhouse. Also Jos A Bank just started suit rental, and they were also cheaper than Men's Wearhouse at least here.

We purchased the suit in October for April wedding when he was visiting his mom.

Make sure to get it fitted as welll as if he will "bulk up" to leave room. my fh had it fitted and he was working and lifting pipe at work and now we have to have the shoulders let out!

I think DH rented his in May for our August wedding, it was $175 from Men's Wearhouse. I also wanted to add, they specifically told us that if you're renting for children (ringbearer), they don't want to measure them until a month before in case they grow.

Thank you for all of the input! I had no idea that suits cost that much!

I think I am going to get FH to go looking for them soon. Almost all of the groomsmen are from out of state. And our families live out of state, so it sounds like we need to start looking.

DH finally picked a tux 4 weeks before the wedding (after I told him that if he didn't I was going to pick it out without him if it didn't get done). The guys paid $129 (which didn't include shoes but they were told they could wear any black shoes they had). Building off kahlcara's post, our ring bearer was measured the Sunday before our wedding and my sister picked up his tux the day before the wedding.
