How long after the wedding until you can follow up on pictures?

Kristine, on July 18, 2017 at 11:48 PM Posted in Married Life 0 20

Hello! My husband and I got married on June 2 of this year. Within in a week and a half the photographer put up about 10 of our pictures on her social media account. However, we haven't heard from her since or seen any of the other pictures. When is it okay to follow up with the photographer on getting your photos? I don't want to seem pushy or demanding but it's been about 50 days since the big day. The photographer didn't give me any timeline on when the images would be ready. Any suggestions?

Was there a timeline in your contract? I'm not sure what's the standard, but I think it wouldn't hurt to send her an email asking for a timeline.

You should never have signed a contract that didn't include a time frame for delivery of the finalized images. But of course there is nothing you can do about that mistake now.

I say wait until you are officially at two months and then check in.

If it's not in your contact then all you can do is ask her. I would give her a couple more weeks and then follow up, around the 2 month mark. My photos took 4 months after the initial teasers. But that was specified in the contract so I knew they would take that long.

My photographer said it would we six weeks. She text me last week saying they are almost ready. I know she's in the thick of wedding season, so I'm being patient.

It's good that you got some teaser photos. That's a good start, IMO. Wait til the 2 month mark before contacting your photographer. My contract says to expect photo delivery within 8-10 weeks.

Thanks for sharing. I now know to ask my person when should I expect my pictures? 1 week for pre-views, 2 weeks for prints. 30 days for video edited. Hopefully my time lines is what he will say.

Check your contract. Mine was 2 weeks. We got pictures in a week. Even though 800 of them was someone else's wedding and 100 were of mine.

We were sent a link to ours while we were on honeymoon, so it must have been within two weeks. It was a while after before we had the physical disk in our hands.

@OP - check your contract like PPs stated.

@Charlene - if your contract says 2 weeks, expect them back in 2. That's what my contract stated too and our photographer met the deadline.

My contact says 8 weeks for all photos but guaranteed a teaser within 10 days.

I would wait until the 8 week mark and then contact them.

Can you look at her social media to get an idea of how long it's taken for other couples? Our photographer always posts a few teasers within a week and then a "sneak peek" within a month. When he sent my sneak peek he told me the gallery would ready within two weeks. But if they post multiple things for each couple you could at least get an idea from others.

We got a sneak-peak about 2 weeks after, which was 10 pics.

The rest we got about 6 weeks after the wedding.

    Contract stated 6 - 8 weeks though.

If you contract doesn't state, you can always politely ask for a time frame of when they will be ready.

It should always be in the contract, it's unprofessional not to have that specified. I wouldn't wait to ask. Yes, it usually takes anywhere from 2-4 months for photos, but since you have no idea because it was left out, I would ask right away so you can set your expectations. Say "Hi so-and-so. Thanks for photographing our wedding! We really enjoyed the sneak peek photos :-) We realized there was no specified timeframe for when we would receive our photos. Please let me know when we should expect to receive our photos/products/etc. by. Thank you!"

Those terms need to be in the contract, no exceptions. It's rude for her to put up on her social media without first giving you access to them if they're sneak peaks. No time like the present to follow up. Try email first, if no response in a couple days, call her.

My photographer told us our pictures would be ready in 6-8 weeks. She had them to us in 4. I'd follow up.

Ahhh our photographer said 4-6 weeks, but expect it to take on the longer side of that range since it's the thick of wedding season

Yes it should be stated in the contract when your wedding photos will be ready for delivery. Two weeks is my time frame for proofs and another two weeks after the B&G pick their image.
