Set a budget, draft a guest list, find a venue that fits both.

Take some time to enjoy being engaged. But I would say, start planning about 18 months out. I started planning 11 months out and I had to settle on a Sunday because my venue had Saturdays booked way in advance.

I got engaged December 2015 we are planning on getting married in April 2018. We Barely decided on a date , now we're Barely trying to sort things out I would say start looking at how much you want to spend & a place where you want to get married. They say places get booked a year in advance . Hope this helps! We're kind of in the same boat Smiley smile

    Hi Hanna,

I'm such a list follower, I started right away (11 months out) and just started clicking off my list. I have to admit I have changed my mind on a few things, but I say it's never too early.

I started about a month out because the venues fill up quickly in my area. Our engagement will be just over a year long.

I got engaged two weeks before my finals week so I tried to wait to start planning until after they were over, but ended up booking the venue, photographer, videographer and DJ within two weeks.

One thing I wish someone would have told me though is to book dates with your photographer ASAP. I didn't think about that and waited until we were three months from the latest that we could take engagements, which was a disaster. If you're getting a professional photographer, they are likely going to be booked up for every weekend, and trust me you don't want to feel rushed because you are the engagement shoot that was scheduled in-between two other shoots they are doing that day.
