How late is your ceremony?

Leah, on March 17, 2016 at 8:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 43

Okay my fellow summer brides. Since my wedding is planned for July the sun sets around 9pm. Our venue has a barn with gorgeous sunset views and lights hanging from the ceiling, plus a fire pit outside. So I was originally planning the ceremony to start at 3, but now I think it would be gorgeous to have the sunset and part of the reception at night time. Mostly for pictures as well. The guests are only both of our large families and just a few friends. I don't see them staying a really long time for the reception. Is 5pm too late for a ceremony so the reception could be later? What do you ladies have planned?

I also got married in July at 5 pm. That's a pretty common ceremony time. Our reception ended at 10 and most guests were there until the end.

I'm also in July as well. Our ceremony isn't starting until 5:30. That was based of our venues suggestion about when most of their weddings start there. It'll end at 6. So cocktail hour will be from 6-7. Then reception from 7-11. The last wedding I went to started at 2-2:30. But the reception was about 45 mins away. I was very drunk at the end so I'm gonna guess it ended around 10 or 11? I would have stayed longer if it kept going! I don't think 5 is late at all to start.

June at 5pm is our ceremony and pictures after. The late day sun lighting is going to be so pretty for pictures! ETA: we aren't doing a cocktail hour, our ceremony/reception is in the same area except the ceremony is outside. After ceremony, I plan on everyone just coming inside and we all start eating dinner/drinking/mingling. Afterwards cake, then partyyy.

I'm a July bride too! We are doing a 6pm ceremony and our pictures will be 7ish... so we're planning on going to a local park and taking pictures in front of the waterfall for the same reason as you. I think you should do it it'll be BEAUTIFUL!

I've been to many 5 or 6 pm weddings. Do it if that is what you want! Our wedding is technically spring but sunset is at around 8:30. We are starting at 3 because it's a Sunday. I was a little disappointed because I wanted some sunset pictures, so my photographer told me she could steal us from the reception for 5 min and get a few shots.

We're having our ceremony start at 5pm in August. From how you're describing your venue I think the late start time will lead to gorgeous pictures!

I'm getting married in the spring, but the ceremony is at 5:30pm, the cocktail hour is 6-7pm and dinner/dancing/dessert is from 7-11pm. We had the option of starting at 6:30pm but I felt like 8pm was a bit late for dinner. I think 5pm is perfect for you!

If you want sunset pictures, just sneak away like Jacqui said. We did exactly that. After our first dance and parent dances we left for 15 minutes to take them. It was perfect timing.

Perfect! Yes I think we will definitely sneak away for a few pictures during the sunset. Photos are the most important part to me! Thank you all for your input, you have been most helpful!

It may depend on your venue. Almost all of my venues do 6:30 starts.

Sunset is at 7:50pm for us, we are having a cocktail hour at 7pm, ceremony at "8pm" (it will probably start 15 minutes late on purpose) and then dinner and dancing to follow.
