How hot is too hot?

Morning ladies! There was a post on here a few weeks ago that got me thinking - how hot is too hot for an outdoor ceremony? We're in Arizona where the humidity isn't a problem, but I'm afraid living here for the last few years has made me more tolerant to heat and less tolerant to cold. We have an air conditioned space where we can move everything if we wake up in the middle of a heat wave, but just wanted to get some ideas where people who aren't used to the AZ heat are comfortable.

I grew up in Nevada and lived in Arizona for several years. I think the answer depends on where most of your guests are from and also if there are elderly, very young, or in-poor-health guests to consider. Also misters or fans may make a difference.

I'm in Phoenix now, but I grew up in Los Angeles and lived in Flagstaff for about four years. Really, 85 feels different in all of these places, but it's usually where it starts getting too hot, especially in Phoenix, where a "breeze" just feels like a hair dryer blowing in your face half the time. Yuck.

If it hadn't been getting so hot lately, I'd say you're safe in April, but, well, El Nino isn't making things easy,

Minnesota here! For us its like 80 in the sun = sweating...that's when you go on the motorcycle with no jacket.

But 80 in the shade with a slight breeze is fine for most of us.

It was 56 today here, and we were out grilling in short sleeves.

I'm from Texas and it gets humid here rather fast. I would say 80 - 85 without humidity

Being from Southern CA, anything under 100 is fine by me. I feel a little bad for our upcoming nuptials as July in CO is also a "barn burner". Speed through vows we will.

It depends on the humidity. I'm in NH and 85 with high humidity sends me running for an air conditioner. My aunt lives in Phoenix, and when I'm out visiting I can handle 95 and sometimes higher if I have water with me.

You should also think about how long your ceremony will be. If it's short, you'll probably be ok at s higher temperature.

I'm in the south, TN to be exact. I would not want to be outside for a ceremony anytime from May-September. It's just too freakin hot.

If it was 80 or more, I would be miserable, and probably leave early if there was no relief (indoor options, fans, shade, etc.). 75 and humid sucks, too. But, I am from New England, so YMMV.

IMO, anything over 75 requires shade and fans, at minimum.

I'm from Michigan and 80 would be my cutoff for when it is too warm. MoMo(Lauren) if you know it is going to be a barn burner why would you have an outdoor wedding? It doesn't matter if it short or not (and getting there early, getting seated, praying to God you start on time, getting out of there is not short). I just don't understand that.

@jeleebeenz. Thats the funny thing about CO, granted most July's are hot. However, the propensity to have a wicked thunderstorm is also very much real. My MoH was married in August several years ago, it was 90s when we made the drive. We were greeted by freezing cold rain and hail through most of her vows, then around 4, it was back to 80 some odd degrees. Our guests will be under a pavilion and the ballroom has a/c, so it's not like they will scorch to death in the mid morning sun.

I'm in Southern California and I love the sun. I purposely vacation in Arizona in July for my birthday lol but I'd say 85 tops to just be sitting there in it, dressed up. I'd say make sure everything runs on time and have a short ceremony. The fan program idea is also a nice touch. I'm planning on doing them for that reason.

Gilbert AZ here. I hate the heat and the sun w/ every fiber of my being. If it's over 70 - there better be shade. Over 80 and I'm miserable. I rather stand in the shade before I sit in the sun for any length of time at all.

I have lived in Phoenix my whole life and I would say any time outside of November - April would be too hot for an outside ceremony. As long as there is shade and a breeze you can get by with a temperature in the 80's. Just remember, people are going to be dressed up and not walking around in bikinis and swim trunks so that plays a factor as well!

I see your wedding is two weeks after mine - April here is usually gorgeous and we have been spoiled with getting nice weather through the end of May the past few years. I hope mother nature repeats herself yet again!

If it's shaded and in the 75-ish range, and a short ceremony, you'll be ok. Any hotter and the shade won't keep people from getting sweaty and feeling gross/like their makeup is melting off. Also, direct outdoor sun is a no-no for some, especially older guests, so keep that in mind even if you have shade from a tree over half of the seating etc. People can handle dry heat better than with humidity (I'm in Louisiana - swampy all day every day) so you may have 5 or 10 degrees to work with, but if in doubt, don't push it. Good luck!

Humidity is really bad here in Texas, so if it's above 80 and humid, I'm a miserable mess. 70s is actually beautiful though, especially if there's shade. Shorter ceremonies are also much more doable!
