How hot is too hot?

Carly, on March 6, 2016 at 10:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 42

Morning ladies! There was a post on here a few weeks ago that got me thinking - how hot is too hot for an outdoor ceremony? We're in Arizona where the humidity isn't a problem, but I'm afraid living here for the last few years has made me more tolerant to heat and less tolerant to cold. We have an air conditioned space where we can move everything if we wake up in the middle of a heat wave, but just wanted to get some ideas where people who aren't used to the AZ heat are comfortable.

I'm from Massachusetts so anything over 90 is tooooooo hot for me! Otherwise I'll end up having a sweaty panic attack!

I'm from Wyoming so it all depends on humidity and a breeze. If it's truly dry where you are I'd say 100 with no breeze is too hot. 95 and a breeze and I think you're fine. It's cold where I live but it's only a half hour-hour. Have water available if you're that worried about it. People will live.

Over 75 in direct sun, maybe 80 in the a

I'm in Wisconsin and 80 is too hot for me but that's also with humidity. Ha. I think I could bear 95 through a ceremony for the bride and groom. Just have programs so ppl like me can fan themselves. Smiley smile

Omg y'all saying 85, 90, 95.... Im also from MA and now live in VA. if it is above 80 and i am outside for more than 15 minutes, I am 100% guaranteed to get a migraine.

i know thats just me, not everyone. If I, personally, was invited to an outdoor wedding in AZ i would probably decline. it looks like for most people the limit is 85 or 90 degrees

    I hate the heat...80 if it's not shaded, 85 if it's shaded.

Midwest here (Kansas) Anything over 80 with sun the out.

I'd rather have it be cool outside.

I also live in Arizona so my heat tolerance is higher than most but I think it depends where most of your guests are coming from. Also depending on your dress, it could make it awfully hot for you as well and you probably don't want to worry about passing out at the altar.

I'm in Phoenix and I've been worried about this too. Since it has hit the 90s so early I'm hoping for a cool down!

I am from Delaware, but have lived in Tucson the past 7 years. I never really acclimated, so I tend to feel the heat much sooner than my friends who grew up here. My tolerance for heat anywhere else in the US is around 85 degrees. Because of the lack of humidity in AZ, 95 degrees in Tucson feels like 85 degrees elsewhere. I'd say in AZ, move the wedding inside if it's approaching 100.

Is your venue space shaded, or in direct sunlight? If it's shaded, your guests will be much happier at higher temperatures.

Okay you guys have all made me feel a LOT better! I was going to be nervous if we were approaching the high 70s but I'm a worrywart. I was going to skip programs but that's a good idea to have them double as fans! We're also going to have cold bottled water since I thought that was a nice touch at an outdoor wedding we went to in Chicago last August. The ceremony will be short - I just don't want to make people miserable.

If you're doing your own programs, there are templates out there where your program is a fan...just an idea? Smiley smile

I'm also in central AZ and our wedding is in New River.

Personally, I wouldn't want to make anyone sit outside in anything over 85 degrees if they are in direct sunlight. We were out off-roading yesterday and it was high 80s and whenever we were stopped in the sun it was uncomfortable. I can't imagine being in nice clothing, makeup and hair in those conditions.

Depends on the sun. Will you have shade? Anything in the 80s with sun could be intense.

With humidity, ~80 is about the highest I can comfortably manage. Higher than that, I get cranky. I can handle higher temps in dry heat.

Maybe over 100. I love the way the sun feels on my skin.
