How far to drive for wedding gown alterations?

Vivien, on April 13, 2021 at 9:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I bought a preowned wedding gown online and I would like to get it taken out a bit and add off the shoulder straps. The only alterations within an hour of me have 10 to 30 reviews on Google and doesn't seem to specialize in wedding dresses or do they really need to specialize in wedding dresses to be good? Would I be better off taking this dress to another bridal salon near me or David's bridal or drive 2 to 2.5 hours to the Atlanta area?

Luckily, you wouldn’t have to go very often. I think my seamstress recommends 3 appointments. I found someone who specialized in wedding dresses. I was afraid of going with a cheaper option and having them ruin my dress. I would assume it’ll come down to time and money. It’s a big commitment to drive 5 hours for three appointments. I probably would though. Maybe let the seamstress know and they can try to make it happen in two?

Personally I would not trust a seamstress without proficiency in wedding dress alterations especially if you need to change sizing a little. Wedding dresses tend to be much more intricate than any standard dress.

Take the drive, your dress will thank you. It’ll be great decompressing time... you could get a book on tape or make a motivating playlist. Maybe your MOH or a BM will go with you and you can make a day of it!

I would take the drive. I’m in pa and I’m driving 45 minutes to get my dress altered. Also I wouldn’t take it to David’s bridal to get it altered there crazy priced and I’ve had horrible experiences there when I’ve gone that’s why I didn’t buy my gown there I got it from someone second hand (never worn tags still on it)
