How far is too far from ceremony to venue in distance ?

Janessa, on March 4, 2020 at 4:17 PM Posted in Planning 1 21
Hi ladies, I’m possibly looking into a church from
One end of Miami to the reception in Boca Raton the commute says 1 hour 5 min , how long is too long to make the drive for the guest I don’t want it to be inconvenient .

I think it’s ok. But I’m used to going to weddings where there’s a long gap time in between anyway

Agree with Kelly, I wouldn't do more than 30 minutes. Also, from Miami to Boca could take a lot longer than an hour if even the littlest thing is wrong on 95. Also, where will guests be staying? Boca or Miami? Either way they'd have to drive that long distance twice....

I also agree with Kelly. With a drive that long, you may have guests who decide to only make the trip to either just the ceremony or just the reception.

I would say at most 30 minutes. It wouldn't be fair to expect them to drive too far.

We had a wedding this past summer and the church was an hour from the reception. They gave plenty of time between the ceremony and the reception and a lot of people made the trek, but it didn't make it any less annoying though

South Florida drivers and taking I-95 from Miami to Boca? I wouldn't risk it, honestly. Also, it's going to be November, when all the snowbirds start coming down too, so lots of extra traffic. Who even knows what renovations they'll be doing to I-95 at that time, too.

Anything more than 30 is too much. You have to take into account time of day, traffic an 1.5 hr drive could turn into 2

I was in a wedding and it was a good hour drive from church to reception. Most people ended up just going to the reception instead of both

Depends on your guests and how many of them there are. If it’s in your budget, you can hire a shuttle to transport people from ceremony to reception. If not, but is a small wedding (<70) of mostly close friends and family, I think 1 hour or even a little more is fine. If it’s a bigger wedding with parents friends, etc on the guest list, probs not.

Or just invite nearest and dearest to ceremony and reception. And people you’re inviting out of social obligation can be reception only.

Are you from south FL and familiar with the area or is it a destination wedding? I ask because it might make a difference if everyone is used to the traffic and is comfortable driving I-95. If this is a destination wedding and everyone isn't from the area, I would have the ceremony in Boca near the reception to make it easy on everyone.

I was thinking to have guests stay in boca that way after the reception they can be close to to where they are driving after a night of partying

I know I would hate if some ppl only chose to go to one and not both especially after paying for all of the expenses to accommodate the guests
