How early is too early to set up your wedding website?

Pancakes, on May 22, 2014 at 12:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Am I being super creepy if I began to set up my wedding website this week? I don’t intend to give it out until late this year, but I am beginning to edit it when I’m bored. I’ll just be updating information as I have it.

I know someone who announced their engagement on FB and included the full-done (clearly took a lot of time, it was very intricate) wedding website in the announcement. Everyone thought that was strange. I did, too. But then realized I also knew we were getting engaged 7 months earlier than it happened, but I just kept it a secret. I just don't want to see odd and creepy for setting it up too early. Thanks!

I set it up when we sent out our save the dates. But do it when you want to, why not?

People won't know that you set it up unless you tell them. It can be confusing to some ppl so I would set it up when you get a chance.

I would start it whenever you have time and add information to it as it becomes available. That way it isn't a huge job all at once and it will be ready when you need it to be. We did not give out the URL for our wedding website until we put it on our invitations, but the site was finished long before then. I am still adding to it occasionally. I will say that most people don't look at it though.

I'll be completely honest. No one is going to use it.

I installed analytics on mine to see how often someone is on it for information. Answer: Almost Never. They just call me with questions.

    Save yourself the time lol.

I don't think it's creepy to edit it as long as you're not giving the info out.

I'm doing mine now that my engagement pics are back and we're 5 mos out. We didn't send out STDs, and I have no plans to forward the website info until our invites go out.

That's totally fine to work on it now! But don't let anyone know about it at least until you send save the dates. I know someone who shared theirs on Facebook right away, and it was just a bunch of blank pages and a picture of them. Um, why?

We are working on our website, but unless people google search it they probably won't know it's there until it's on an invitation.

Starting working on it now, just don't make it public until you are ready to share. We never ended up finishing ours and a bunch of people somehow found it...whoops.

I think it's a nice touch. It doesn't take very much time at all to set up and put in the info, and it's very helpful. 100% of his side is coming from out of state. So I think they will use it for information. The younger people in my family like them and prefer them over receiving any paper invite at all (I am still sending paper invites, of course). So I think it will be used. But I understand that not every single person will be on it 6 hours a day. It's just something considerate to add for the out of town guests, in my opinion.

ADD - Forgot to mention a friend recently got married 3 hours away so we all had to travel. She hadn't sent out any information other than STDs but we needed to reserve a hotel because it was one of those farm cities that had one hotel. And she was having a 300 person wedding. So we all had to search for their website to get the hotel information because we didn't want to bother them but had to get the hotel info. So sometimes they are helpful!

You can start working on it whenever you like! I started right away (last July), doing a little bit here and there when I had time. No one saw it until we sent out Save the Dates in February.

I started pretty early on mine, I had never even heard of the concept of a wedding website before signing up with wedding wire so it was exciting to set up. Since we are having a destination wedding it will really help to share info with our guests. We did not show anyone the website until the save the dates were sent though.
