How do you get the veil to stay in?

Mrs. Kline (Sass), on November 20, 2010 at 4:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

It has a little comb teeth thing and so does the "tiara" but it just keeps falling out. I have fine hair. Am I doomed to have it falling all night or is there a trick to make it stay in place?

They put alot of bobby pins in my hair........I must of pulled at least 75 bobby pins out of my hair by the end of the night.

Oh okay. The woman that gave it to me has really thick curly hair and it stayed in naturally. I was worried that there where different styles for different hair types or something. And thanks a lot Sissy Smiley sad

The style I did I had a bit of a poof and that held it in. I don't think they even used bobby pins. Plus I had extensions too. So there was a pocket within the poof and behind or inbetween the extensions that held it pretty securely.

Try teasing your hair then placing it infront/under the tease, depending on your style, so it has something to "grab" onto.

Bobby pins and hairspray. It won't move after they do your hair, and you'll be picking bobby pins out the next day Smiley smile

To get that teasing effect without all the work I recommend this: http://www.sleekhair.com/23227.html

That's just one website it's on but you can google it under big sexy hair powder and find it at a bunch of other places. Try a Sally Beauty Supply or an Ulta and see if they have it. Or any salon that carries their products.

First, spray your hair, and then backcomb the crown area. You will probably have to anchor with many, many bobby pins.

Not to make it sound as if you do not know how to put it in, but the comb has to go in the right way, or it will slip out. When I first used some hair combs, they fell out constantly. The I found out that I was putting them in my hair the wrong way...with the teeth going the right way. LOL!

I also second the bobby pin idea, if needed.

Are you getting your hair done by a professional? They're really good at making them stay in place. I had an up-do and apparently there was enough texture for the comb to grip onto. I have fine hair as well. But my hairdresser did place my veil after she was done with my hair.

Oh, i have very fine hair also but because my stylist teased it so much & put in all of that extra sh*$ PLUS she put the veil in, it stayed in very well... until we went outside for formal pix. it was super windy & the veil just fell out. wasn't that great of a comb anyway, the veil&comb combined i got on ebay for 30$

I too looked this up awhile back because I thought about wearing all my hair down-my hair is really long, but it's really fine I guess since my veil comb slid right out too!

I read a few different ideas:

You can put a 'pin roll' in the spot where you want your veil (roll a piece of hair into a little 'bun' and bobby pin it) and place the veil comb above and into that.

    OR

You can take a small amount of hair (under the top layer) and put it into a very small ponytail with a little bitty rubberband, then the veil comb will catch on that.

I do agree with those who said teasing!and hairspray to hold the teasing!

    Good luckSmiley smile

All of the above and a metal wire comb will stay in better than a plastic one - they are easier to bobby pin in.

Basically, with the comb, you start out pointing it toward the front of your head and pick up some hair that way. Then you flip it to point to the back of your head, and push it in that way. That cases hairs to be wrapped around the teeth of the comb to help it stay in place. Then you add bobby pins to that for double protection.

I never gave my veil much thought, so you are already ahead of the game. My veil was fine until my parents lifted it in the ceremony to kiss me on the cheek. They pulled the comb right out of my head. I quickly stuck it back in and then had more problems with it when my husband tried to lift it to kiss me! After the ceremony, literally on the way to the door, I ripped it out and handed it to someone so I never had to think about it again! Stupid $200 veil.....lol

Thanks everyone. I don't think I did it right now lol

@Lily- I am debating it. There is this local stylist that I love who does the brides hair for free when the bridal party gets theirs done there (and the bridal party is getting theirs done there either way) but my hair is so short I think it would be a waste of time for the both of us. If it makes everything stay better it might be worth going. Here is a current pic of my hair- sorry its late and I am a bit drunk so I don't look great but you get the general idea of length and stuff.
