Was asking for a family member's blessing part of your proposal story?

I think it's really sweet. I don't think it's necessary but I know my dad was really touched when he asked him about it especially since my first husband didn't

No. I had a bad relationship with my parents. Their approval meant nothing to me.

He asked my dog for my hand. That was perfect.

My FH knew it was super important to me that he ask my parent's permission to marry me; I'm not really sure why this was so important to me, but it was.

He didn't involve my mom, because he knew she wouldn't be able to keep the big secret haha, but he did ask my dad, in person, the day before he popped the question to me Smiley smile My dad really respected him for doing that; it also meant a lot to me Smiley heart

I did not even think my FH would consider this gesture. He proposed when I went down to Texas for his Air Force graduation. He borrowed a friend's phone to call my parents and personally ask for their blessing the day before. It was so sweet, and definitely something I am very happy that he chose to do!Smiley smile

Approval was not necessary. My dad couldn't really give me approval, even if he tried! He wasn't always there for me in my life, and though I love him, I wouldn't value his opinion at all. My mom, I have no relationship with, so that's self explanatory, LOL! FH's dad liked me from the start, but there wasn't no approval process, lmfao! FH's mom and I have been extremely rocky at certain times, and has said nasty comments about me that I will never forget, however though she has calmed down, no one cares about her opinion or "approval" because she can't even be one to talk!!! LOL! I know,it all sounds super negative, sorry in advance, but it's true. For some, I can imagine why it would be important. But for us, it wasn't even a thought. We love each other and we don't need anyone to give their two cents on something they have no part in.

Not an issue for us since we've both lost our parents. My family, brother, SIL, etc. have been less than interested in me getting married. My fiancee's siblings, kids, and cousins were pretty excited for us which is nice
