How do you decide on a Dj??

Casey, on May 21, 2020 at 10:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I've gotten prices from a few different DJs. All are around the same price so that factor is out. So, how do you choose one? Not many of them have videos giving examples of their style. Do you just go based off of ratings? Pretty much as long as they follow your direction for what you do and don't want & have the personality to keep the crowd going all night does it really matter?

Ours came with a DJ and has good reviews and years of experience. If that wasn’t the case I’d look into cost and see what my budget is, look at reviews, and set up an appointment to see if they have a demo or video or if they can explain how they work.

We pretty much based our decision off of what you already mentioned; price/package, reviews, and personality. We had a phone "meeting" with our DJ and seriously loved him, so there were no questions. We spoke with a few other options, but he had the best reviews and personality.

I was also between 2 DJs and one was slightly cheaper but that didn't really make me decide on him either. i ended up going with the more expensive one because he had a package for photobooth and bilingual MC that i needed or was more useful to me.

I went based on ratings and how professional they were on email and the phone. I was really happy with how it turned out.

Our review provided a list of recommended vendors so I researched all of the DJs they recommended and I also looked up DJs on my own. Our wedding was hours from where we live so I didn't have the opportunity to meet with any of them before deciding. I talked to several on the phone. One even sent us a DVD of his work. We ended going with one the venue recommended. I just went with my gut feeling when it came to picking him and it was the best choice. We was honestly the best vendor I selected of all of them.

We went based off of price/package and reviews. But also our DJ was highly recommended by our venue and wedding planner. We liked this because we knew our DJ had already DJ'ed several weddings at our venue so there would be no issues with sound or set up based on the location.

I trust my photographer, and I asked her who she recommended. Usually vendors know who works well together.

You could go off reviews or follow on social media to go see them play at a bar or event.

Aside from personality, we listened to samples of their mixes. I’ve heard some pretty choppy and weird song transitions so that’s something I was particular about.

I know you said their quotes were the same, but if you really can't decide, I recommend telling the highest one what your lowest quote is and asking if they can beat it. Negotiating prices is totally okay and if you really have no preference from style, reviews, professionalism, gut feeling, etc., you can negotiate prices and then pick the lowest one.

Ours came highly recommended and after we met him for coffee we knew he was perfect. He seemed to understand what we wanted and just meshed with us all around.

We 'stole' ours directly from our friends' wedding 2 years before ours.

Ask around. If any of your friends have gotten married recently, ask for their recommendations. Once things open up, you can always see if you can attend a party or two where the DJs are working.

I just emailed my contact with our venue to see if she had any personal recommendations. A venue I had previously toured gave me a couple of her favorite vendors from the list, she told us that one of the DJs she liked was sort of goofy and corny which isn't what we're looking for which helped count that one out. So we'll see what she says.
