How do I say "We like kids, we just dont want yours at our wedding"??

I am getting ready to send invitations here shortly so I need some blunt advice. Our nieces and nephews will be attending as well as two teenagers from out of state but other than that I don't want anyone else bringing their kids. I am getting ready to send invitations here shortly so I need some blunt advice. Our nieces and nephews will be attending as well as two teenagers from out of state but other than that I don't want anyone else bringing their kids. I know I will get some backlash from my cousins on this and I don't care, I am mostly concerned with not offending His side of the family. How do I explain that SOME kids will be there but yours aren't invited?

We are planning to invite children in circles. FH's work friends' kids will not be invited, but our family's kids will be. We'll address the invites accordingly without any extra explanation about the kid situation.

We told our guest no kids at all so there was no hurt feelings at all. We put this on our invite

In order to allow all guests, including parents, an evening of relaxation we have chosen for our wedding day to be an adult only occasion. We hope this advance notice means you are still able to share our big day and will enjoy having the evening off!

FFS it's not rude to not invite kids/invite kids in circles. It's actually very rude for parents to get worked up because their kid isn't invited to a wedding or ask for a seat for their kid(s). Either you find childcare and go or you don't. It's really nothing for people to get their panties in a wad over. I love my kid but trying to drag him to a wedding would be so much more trouble than it's worth. I really don't understand why people would get offended because their kid wasn't invited.

OP invite your nieces and nephews and give the "I'm sorry if you won't be able to attend" line if people get pissy.

Jan, my friends actually told me there's no way in they're bringing their kids, that they want an adult night out.

I have an 8 year old, and I don't get offended when I get invites to adult only events.

I'm with LG on this. It's so much more difficult with bringing a child.

If I were to invite all my friends and their kids I'd have over 20 kids ages 1-10

    This is what we said:

"As much as we love your little ones, it is just impossible for us to allow everyone to bring their children. So please, hire a baby sitter and come dance the night away with us! For our out of town guests, there are several reputable babysitting services here in Atlanta that you can utilize."

I am inviting everyone including their kids. I just don's see inviting the parents but not allowing them to bring their kids. But everyone has their own opinion, and their own vision for their wedding.

We aren't saying no to kids and we are surprised by the amount of people (those we aren't as close to like friends and co-workers) who just say on their own that they wouldn't be bringing their kids, and stood by that stance even when I clarified that kids were welcome haha. I didn't think it would be fair to allow for certain children and not others even if the exception was connected to family. At the end of the day it can be twisted and misinterpreted so easily.

It's a risk but, there's a chance even if you choose not to say anything, many may opt to leave their children home.

It's almost impossible to invite everyone's children your guest list will double if you try to accommodate the children also so the best way is to only have the children in your bridal party

We are having a no kids wedding besides my niece and nephews that are the flower girl/ring bearers. We are just addressing the invitations to the people invited. Honestly, for us it came down to cost. We have so many kids in our family, it would end up being another 50 guests.

I think your issue is that you made an exception for teenagers from out of town.

No kid wedding (beside the ring bearer and flower girl) for me and no shame. If people don't want to come or can't come then I understand.

Invite who you want. Only kids at my wedding will be my own and my nephew and cousin's daughter (both will be 16 by then) so no little kids. I would never get a wedding invite and assume my kids are invited...thats insane. Good luck!

We are having our kids there and no others. We are just addressing the invites to the adults and put an "adults only" comment on our website. We also made our rsvp's on our website only so they can't add additional guests. It's not rude to not want kids at your wedding. Idk what's happening with these comments. It's never been an issue before, it's a personal choice. If someone declines because they can't bring kids then that's on them.

ETA- I wouldn't make it known to guests that you're even making an exception for the few. Just let them deal with it and if it's an issue after the wedding, then they can be bitter about it, it doesn't change anything.

I'm kind of in the same place. We're having a small wedding, venue is only allowing 50 guests because we're doing a half day rental. I have a large family and between an aunt and uncle that's 8 kids alone taking up our guest count. I would like to use those spots for adults but the kids (specifically the 2 oldest ones that are in high school) have been looking forward to being able to attend my wedding. Some are behaved and some are not so I don't want to be like, "your kids can come because they're disciplined but yours cannot." Overall we plan on going out after the wedding because it's such a short event and there's no way for people to have babysitters because everyone is OOT's. I don't want angry cousins that look up to me for leaving them out of the wedding and I honestly don't think anyone would have trouble finding childcare or be upset about having to leave their kids behind. I'm not sure what I should do. Maybe like 10 years old and older kind of deal?

Always no kids at all. No kids at all. Lol but I hate kids so I'll always say no kids. Take them away from me.

The only kid at our wedding will be my daughter. Our caterer charges full price for everyone over 3 years old. I explained this and most people with children understood or declined. I costum-made my invites and it says each person name on the invitation and said how many seats were reserved in their honor

@TealWedding, it is not rude to ask your family to spend time with you at their wedding without their children. 8 hours is a long time, but i think they can survive. If you can't get a sitter, you can't get a sitter and you decline. That's just the way it is. It's your wedding, and if you think it's important to have someone there. I have many people in my family who would be very hurt if they weren't invited.
