How do I cancel a wedding venue?

Trisha, on November 19, 2016 at 12:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

I want to cancel my booked venue because of the lack of communication and poor service to me from the day after I signed my contact.

I am 7 months away from my wedding date will they if me a refund if my contact states

"In the event client cancels or breaches the agreement within in six months of reserved event date,Client agrees that payment to date of cancellation should be nonrefundable and should belong to Caterer unless Caterer is able to rebook the premises."

Should I be able to get a refund ?

It seems like you won't unless they can fill your original date?

Normally you don't get deposits back from what I understand...I can be totally wrong though.

It sounds like the caterer is non refundable but the venues policy isn't clear.

To me it sounds as if it's refundable. It says within 6 months and you're seven months out.

I was a hotel sales manager for years and from the sound of that paragraph you should be able to cxl with no penalty outside of six months. Contracts can be tricky though if there is more wording elsewhere you're missing

Unless there is other language related to this issue, it would appear refundable. I would contact them immediately and assume refundable. Don't ask. Just send email, saying very sorry, circumstances require you to email and to send refund to (address).

I read that as stating that anything you have paid so far in non-refundable and goes to the caterer, but if you cancel, you are not required to pay the remaining balance as long as you do so 6 months or more before the event.

The way I understand it, you have enough time to cancel if you do it now. But you will only get any money you paid refunded if the caterer can fill that date with another client.
