How do I ask as photographer to shoot my wedding

Emily, on March 16, 2016 at 2:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

I've been looking for a photographer, I know my wedding isn't for a year and a half, but I live in a big summer tourist destination, so booking two years in advance is a must.

I've found a few I like, but, how do you ask them, I really have no clue. I feel like my email draft I sound like a tool. I feel like I have to sell my wedding to the good photographers (is that weird?) I know this is probably silly but I need advice!

Just reach out to them for quotes. You don't need to sell your wedding so much as see if there's anything that they can do it. It's about scheduling.

I would give them a call rather than email.

I know alot of photographers have Facebook pages, and post their pics on there. You could scope some out, check out their photos and most have their websites posted also...

If they are on the WW vendor page you can email through that, it's set up so you can ask. Other than that, did you check out their main website? Did it state how to contact them --phone or email? If they have the contact number listed and you like their work I'd call them. You want a rapport with your photographer and you'll be able to tell if you can establish one or if you 'click ' right away on the phone.

I adore my photographer, his work is amazing and we clicked on the phone right away. Seriously, out of all your vendors (besides maybe DOC) you want your personality to 'mesh well' with your photographer.

    ETA Words are hard sometimes.

Have a meeting in person. See their portfolio, talk and see if you click...it's hard to do that over email.

I found a photographer who's photos I fell in love with, I sent her an email saying I was very interested in having her photograph our wedding if she had the date available. She did, so we set up a date to meet up and talk. She wanted to get to know us as a couple and she walked through the entire contract and explained everything we would or wouldn't get with each package if we chose to go with her. We could have done it all through email, but meeting the photographer in person I personally think is the way to go and most want to do that too. They're going to be right with you all day, you want to make sure you're comfortable with them and like a previous poster stated "click" If yous click, and your wedding date is open, you definitely won't have to sell them on your wedding, they'll be happy for the business

I should add that my wedding is out of state so I couldn't meet my photographer in person (yet) so phone for me was the way to go.

@Emily, if you can meet with them in person i'd definitely do that Smiley smile

As a photographer myself just shoot them an email explaing you would like quotes on their packages, and tell them your date of the wedding. Most times they will ask you to meet them at the studio or out for coffee to chat in person and get details of what you would like to do photo wise.

I did as @Kari suggested to you, I emailed through WW vendors and the studio sent e-mail back through my regular e-mail, it was a very easy process. I have an appt with the studio later today.

Tell them you like their pictures, ask what their rates are and set up a meeting. I'm pretty sure they'll be selling you and not you trying to sell your wedding to Them. After all they're the ones getting the pay check.

I totally get it, you feel like you have to sell them on the vision of your big day to get them interested! I think clicking with your photographer on a personal level is very important. I met with one who basically snarked on all my ideas, belittled my venue, and answered a phone call in our meeting! It is so important to meet with them in person. So, just email and tell them your date, the general feel of your wedding, if you have a photography style you love, just the basics. They will email back with a time to meet, if they are available. Just meet with a few and chat!

Ask for quotes and a consolation. ..and then a contract if you like the quote and them.

I don't understand the question. Contact those whose work and style you are passionate about, meet with them and gauge personality....narrow down and make a selection.

I booked all major vendors 15 months in advance. Trust me you do not have to sell your wedding to them. All you have to do is ask for more information. I talked to people via phone and interviewed them. I also stalked everything about them to see how good they were. I feel like I now have vendors I can trusts. Which is extremely important.

I found my photographer off WW, meet in person always! You want to like them! I don't do Facebook nor Instagram so meeting them in person was a great was to know their personality.
