How did you plan for your vegan guests?

Chanieish, on October 8, 2019 at 11:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Hi all!

Husband of one of my bridesmaids is strictly vegan. We were able to make the vegetarian entree vegan but I am having trouble making the some of the hors d’ouvres and appetizer pasta vegan as well.

How much should I cater to his diet? He will be able to eat bread, salad, an entree and one of the desserts. Should I try to make more changes? I don’t want the experience of my other guests to be affected. Smiley smile

We attended a completely vegan-catered reception and wouldn’t have known it had it not been announced beforehand. If you wanted to have more vegan options I’m sure they would be available through your caterer. But I think that you’d be fine with what you have.

    Thanks for the advice ladies!!

I think I’ll keep the passed hors d’oeuvres with meat and vegetarian options and the pasta with ricotta! He is a nice guy and I don’t think he will complain if he doesn’t have anything to munch on during the cocktail hour. Smiley smile

As long as he is getting fed I wouldn’t stress about it too much. I had vegans as well and they had a vegan salad and dinner and dessert. I think only one of 8 passed appetizers was vegan but I didn’t hear a single
complaint. I think most people with food restrictions understand they won’t be able to eat everything in front of them and except people to make decisions based off solely off of their diet

I just attended a bridal shower where one of the sit down apps was portobello mushroom with melted cheese. A lot of people asked to have the mushroom but with no cheese. The restaurant was able to do this no problem!

Then for an entree there was a fish with cheese risotto. A lot of people asked for the fish with no risotto. (I know he doesn’t eat fish) but the point is the meals can be possibly modified

We have 3 vegans, 1 vegetarian & 1 GF. We aren’t worried about the appetizers but just the main meal. We’ll have a veggie & fruit tray too during cocktail hour.

It's a giant pain to have to (literally) cater the needs of the many for the needs of the few. As long as they are giving you options, work around it.

I think as long as you have an entree and at least 1 or 2 hors douvres that's very thoughtful of you! I have a lot of food allergies and every time I go to an event I don't even expect to be able to eat any of the hors douvres anyway so whatever I can have is just a bonus Smiley tongue
