Hi everyone,
Just curious for those who paid for a wedding on your own...how did you do it? Did you already have a lot of money saved? Take out a loan? Credit cards? Just curious!
We only had 1500 saved, but shortly got our tax returns after getting engaged and used that money to book most of our vendors. I work at a hospital and work a lot of OT in order to to fund our wedding and then my FH got a second job that he works until we have enough. Luckily in the past 6 months we have been able to save over 2/3 of the money we need for our wedding.
We saved up a whole bunch of money, about 20k. Since we had the money already we ended up paying installments of a few hundred every month on the credit cards and paying it off right away in order to build our credit and because of the cash back offers.
DO NOT do this unless you plan on paying it all off right away! You should have the money in savings before doing anything.
We had money saved up and continued to save throughout the planning process. We paid for everything with a CC for the points which we used to pay for our honeymoon. IMMEDIATELY after charging, we paid the balance to avoid paying any interest.
We found ourselves reluctant to use our savings to pay for a party, so we're renting out a room in our house for $900/month and using that money to pay for it.
I worked a second job. We stopped eating out as much and I was religious with my coupon habits. There are great apps that are easy to use and don't take a lot of time (Ibotta, Ebates, etc...). I also looked on Facebook yard sale pages and Craigslist for good local deals on items.
I've been saving for my wedding for years so I can have the wedding I want (or close enough). My account is literally nicknamed "Wedding Savings." FH and I have been splitting the costs evenly in our shared account, but it's still nice to have for my few splurges not in the budget.
We each had the money saved up. We opened up a "Wedding Savings" account and put the funds in there. That was our budget for the wedding. However, we didn't account for the honeymoon in that budget, so we are going to be "over" on our budget by the amount of the honeymoon (about $2K). We already have that amount saved up as well.
Don't go into credit card/loan debt. We're paying as we go. It's hard but we're doing it. My mother bought my dress & my aunt is buying our flowers. We're taking care of everything else
We had cash on hand to pay for the wedding thankfully! However, I would not have been adverse to using a credit card with 0% interest for a year to pay for some expenses and then making sure I paid off the balance within that year.
We had taken a little from savings but have been basically paying as we go. The good thing is realized paying as we go is that if we can set this money aside for the wedding after the wedding we should really be able to put away a lot more in our savings.
Hey there! We're putting down payments overtime and saving a designated portion of our paychecks each week to a separate wedding bank account we opened. We save enough to match what our budget is at the end of it. So far we're on track and it's been WAY more doable than I thought it would be.
No credit cards / no loans! Don't do it! If it comes to that, it's time to start making cuts or postponing until you can save up.
Paying as we go. Just paid the first deposit this past Sunday on credit, but will be paid off by the end of next month. Other payments are spread out so I found it helpful to write out a budget plan and how much to put aside monthly for thr venue and other bookings
We saved for a long time, not specifically for a wedding, but just saving in general. We decided to get a Southwest card to pay for all wedding purchases, this way our honeymoon flights will be free. We paid our credit card immediately after each purchase. Everything was paid in full by the wedding. Yay for no debt!
We got engaged last March, had everything booked by mid July, & had everything paid off by January. We just made payments for the 6 months and knocked it out. We had a little bit of a savings built up for it, but didn't use much of it for payments.
