How did you find your first dance song?

@brd2be, on October 4, 2017 at 10:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 46

Does anyone have suggestions for finding a first dance song? Playlists/pandora/spotify radio? We are struggling! We want it to be unique but I feel like I keep hearing the same songs over and over when looking at wedding playlists.

    I was listening to my old CDs in the car one day, and came upon a song that I used to love and it seemed so perfect. I played it for FH later and he agreed to it.

    It's "Interlude" and "My Everything" (tracks 6 & 7) by 98 Degrees on their Revelation album

    This song:

    leads perfectly into the next:

    We never had a "song" either - we danced to Jason Mraz's "I Won't Give Up" - it seemed to fit the idea of a marriage that lasts

    Honestly.. we went back and forth on songs up until a few weeks ago. Changed it a few times until driving around town and a song FH sent to me prior to a work trip had come on the radio and we both just sort of knew that was the song. Brett Young - In Case You Didn't Know. I think some couples have a connection with one song, some have connections with several and some couples have to dig. You have some time... and don't stick to just the current ones either, listen to oldies, different genres.. maybe you'll both be surprised by one randomly. Good luck!

    We're getting married in exactly a month and still have no song. Our fallback is "Most Beautiful Girl" by Flight of the Conchords. It's hilarious and is totally something we would do. We're still on the lookout for a sweeter song, but nothing is really sticking out to us.

    I am Enrique Iglesias biggest fan and FH knows it. I always told him I wanted Hero from him. The lyrics are awesome. He even learned how to play it with his guitar. Sooo it made sense. Enrique says at the beginning "would you dance if i asked you to dance?" Awww lol

    For us, we knew instantly what song we'd be dacning to... Tangled up in you by Aaron Lewis!! it's a song we've always sang to one another in the car and it so perfectly represents our relationship. don't think too hard on it girl, nobody will care if it's over done or if anyone even knows it- everyone will be too busy wiping the tears from their eyes to even care about the popularity of the song or not.

    My FH and I have very different musical tastes and could not agree on anything. We would lay and listen to playlist after playlist, night after night. We finally found one that just spoke to both of us.

    Our song is "I Do" by Susie Suh

    Yea, we never had a song as well. I got some suggestions through WW (the forums, not the song inspiration list. That was waaaay too overwhelming with the amount of songs they have on that list!) I also simply listened to songs I knew I already liked and then the recommended songs after that.

    But in the end, a simple "First Dance Songs" Google search is what made us find our song: "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" by Meghan Trainor and John Legend. It's a song I've liked before but never thought of using for a first dance. I wrote up a list of suggestions and had H listen to them. This particular song was in both of our Top 3's so we went with that one!

    FH knew what song he wanted to dance to, he had me listen to it and loved it! I thought it was perfect for us. We are dancing to "It Only Took a Kiss" by the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies

    FH had a song that he has always liked, and after I heard it I thought the words were meaningful too, so I said OK. It's "Living Inside My Heart" by Bob Seger.

    My cousin used "Songbird" sung by Eva Cassidy, which is very beautiful too, and I don't think too common.

    We are dancing to owl city's "gold" (acoustic version). the song came out on an album in the very beginning of our relationship and the words made me think of him. Maybe about a year later the acoustic version was released and it's perfect for the first dance. Owl city was our first concert that we attended together as well.

    Our first dance is "Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel. FH heard this song on the season finale of Scrubs, years ago, and has loved it ever since. That is the song he imagined at his wedding, and I think it will work out perfectly for us.

    We picked a classic love song from a broadway show we saw together when we were first dating! We wanted something for more timeless. But I think it's all about what speaks to you and your FS

    We debated for a while. The song that we consider to be "our song" is "Do I Wanna Know" by Arctic Monkeys, but we didn't think it was really appropriate for the first dance because of the lyrics. After a while of searching for other songs I found out that Arctic Monkeys did a cover of "Baby I'm Yours" and we thought it was perfect.

    We used "Feels Like Home" by Chantal Kreviazuk.

    How we decided? Honestly? My yoga instructor played it during savasana one time and I thought, "this is a perfect song for us" (H was deployed at the time), so when it came time to pick, I pushed for that one!

    We listened to tons of songs on YouTube by one of our favourite artists until we found a song we both liked. We're doing Peter Hollens's cover of Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud

    @MrsMack love both those songs!!

    But definitely pick out a song that is you two. We are being subtle nerds as the song is from a video game, but you wouldn't know it unless you're a huge fan of the series. I also like that it's a classic song, covered by an artist me and FH both love. Stand by me covered by Florence Welsh.
