How did you decide on your dress?

My mom cried and my dad had a look. Honestly, I wasn’t super attached to any dress but when I saw the people I brought having a reaction, I knew. My friend told me that my face changed and that’s what caused everyone to love the dress. Otherwise, I don’t think I ever would have found one dress to say yes to. Coming from a person who has never imagined their wedding day!

It's the dress you absolutely do not want to take off. Once you find that, stop looking.

Only take one or two others with you who will be honest and whose opinion you value. Too many people leads to too many varying opinions and confusion, and the appointment turns into more of a social event than actually finding a dress. Try on dresses of all silhouettes, not just what you think you’ll like. Many times brides fall in love with a dress that is totally opposite of what they had envisioned!

I’m into medieval fantasy/lord of the rings, knew i would never find what i wanted in a store so i found a lady who made complete custom wedding dresses to your measurements and i didnt try it on until it was shipped to me! SHE CREATED MY OWN DRESS!!! it was totally me!!

I think for me, after a bit of shopping I started to feel the same as you - ALL the dresses were beautiful and I honestly could have worn any of them and been quite happy with it.

That said, only one gave me a rush of emotion. Only one made me think 'oh gee, I'm actually getting married'. And that's the one I picked.

Is there one that makes you feel exactly the way you'd dreamed of feeling on your wedding day? (that might be beautiful, sexy, graceful, romantic, elegant, regal etc). Is there one that you could imagine yourself walking down the aisle to your partner in? Is there one which made your family tear up and say "OMG IT'S SO YOU"? Is there one which gave you an incredible bum, or a fantastic shape, or even hid the bits you don't really like about yourself? Is there one that gave you confidence and joy and hope and which you thought - I cannot WAIT to put this on, on the morning of my wedding? These would be the feelings I'd be looking for.

For me, it was the one i put back on after trying other dresses. It was my 4th shop, but first appt of the day. I tried on this dress 2nd and 5th and made my mom take a zillion pictures and facetime my grandmothers and aunts. It felt awkward going to the other 2 shops that day knowing i really wasnt going to buy anything they were selling.

3. after the dress, everything else feels awkward

My opinion...


You might find lots of gorgeous dresses. You’ll probably see lots of them too after you decide to buy one. You might have dress regret after you purchase. But, you have to decide, and then choose to be happy with your decision.
I had a very hard time choosing a gown. After my experience, I really believe there are many dresses I would have been happy wearing. I don’t think there’s “one perfect dress” for everyone. You just need to choose what makes you feel happy and beautiful and confident, and when you feel that, buy it. I don’t think it’s good to overthink it. It’s all about being happy with what you choose...ultimately everyone will remember you were a beautiful bride.
