How can i make the wedding reception fun?

Sasha, on July 10, 2019 at 3:11 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 8

It's going to be a reception (not the actual wedding, which is happening with only a few guests in a tropical paradise). We are on a tight budget, having it at his parents backyard. I'm scared it's going to rain, or be cold, but tents's are super expensive. The invites are already sent, so I can't change the venue to somewhere inside (plus as I mentioned, tight on money). We are having a taco truck do the food. I have family and friends coming from all over and I want it to be a good experience for them. I'm older now, and so are a lot of guests - I typically leave parties early, but I want this one to be one people want to stay for. What are some fun games or things we could do? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe have a photobooth. You can diy this easily. Get some props you can make or have around your house like sunglasses or cute little signs easily can be made. And just get a camera people can take photos with.

    Lawn games is good too!

Corn hole, giant jenga, washers. Maybe a fire pit? You can build one or buy one pretty inexpensively. Just make sure there is comfortable seating and people will tend to stay longer.

How many guests do you have? Depending on the amount, you may be able to get a tent. For example Amazon has one for $90. If you have a larger party, maybe plan 'lawn game/activities' under the tent, and most everything else inside? And maybe think of creative spins on other wedding favorites such as the longest year dance or a newlywed game. And you can always plan a (budget conscious) raffle. Those are usually a hit and get people to stay until later into the event.

    Here are some additional ideas.

I would get lawn games like cornhole, giant Jenna, ladderball, things like that. As for the tent being expensive, I think that’s an expense that you should do. If the day is rainy you would want that as I’m sure you can’t fit everyone inside.

Because of the location and taco truck (I’m loving this idea), I think yard games would be a lot of fun! You could ask people to bring items, too. Such as if they have a washer set, etc.

Lawn games (corn hole, ladder golf, horseshoes, etc.), a bonfire (with stuff to make s'mores maybe?) and your tacos would be enough to make me stay for sure! Smiley smile Maybe have some adult beverages too!

Can you rent fire pits or heat lamps? Or have several smaller tents? We've gone to around 10 weddings and the most fun had a lot of free alcohol, a great DJ, and a fun group that was dancing a lot so they got everyone else out there.
