Hi ladies- just looking for a reality check: what do you all consider a "big" wedding? some people I tell we're having a 250 person wedding say it's small, others say its huge? just curious, what do you all think??

We're having about 250 people and it can be seen as small, average, and big depending on the way you look at it. Small considering my college graduation party was about 130 people itself and that was just my family. Average because that's about how much people do have no a days; and big because it means we're spending a LOT more than we ever want to for the venue, but yet can't seem to cut the guest list!

I think it really depends on how big your family is! lol. Mine is huge, FHs is small. Also just depends on who all you know!? We are having less than 100 people. I think 250 is alot, but i also dont know that many people i would invite to my wedding. lol. Its just a different perspective i guess? Its your wedding tho, so it shouldnt matter to anyone else Smiley smile

Big wedding I consider 250 to 350. I am inviting almost 200, but I am projecting around 175 to actually come. I'd say that's "medium"

I think 250 is big.. I just don't know how someone can know soo many or be close to soo many family members.. But then I come from a family that don't bother with many members of my mom's side, and the ones we do know on my dad's we don't want to know so his forster siblings and my grandparents who raised him, are invited those are my family. On Fh's side, he doesn't really bother with many of his family members either. But I guess we're still going to invite his aunts/uncles and cousins. They don't have any problems with eachother they just don't bother. unlike my dad's side.

    .

We're having about 6o to 80.. I know it's going to be under 100.. That is only because of the plus one's we're allowing since the actual number is going to be about 40 to 50....

My wedding will have anywhere between 700-900 people. My fiance is Middle Eastern and their weddings are huge. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think my wedding would be this large. Has anyone ever been to an Assyrian wedding?

Lately, anything over 200 is a big wedding. Out of over 30 weddings that I did last year, only 6 of them were over 200. One was an African couple that had 800. The venue held 600 and they opened the large access door and put another 200 in a connected tent. There is no venue around here that can even hold 800-900 people. Most people are staying under 150. They are cutting the guest list so they can afford to do things a little nicer.

Well my family is just huge both my fh and my parents are divorced and remarried so the families just kept growing and growing so from a 250-300ppl wedding we are currently at about 420-450. so i would say ur wedding is not big at all, its a good size.

    We are at around 100-120

Honestly I always thought hundred people is considered a pretty large wedding size but seeing how a lot of venues have 150 guests minimums I guess 100 ppl its small to medium size :-)

Before i started planning, i would have thought like 250 would be soo soo many people, and i would never have that many people at the wedding. but then i started the guest list. keeping it down as much as possible, our list is somewhere around 87 people. thats not including young children that people can bring, and not including vendors that have to eat. actually, thats not including my fh and me either! lol. so now 250 doesnt seem like too much, because if we had the money, we could def invite that many people.

We are at 215 now and the venue only holds 225 without going to the larger ballroom and that isn't in the budget. Personally I think in the 200's in a big wedding. I would have rather had only around 100 people but then we would be cutting out a lot of our family. Oh well.

We started with ideas of a small wedding/reception of 75 but after we really sat down and make out the actual guest list the number grew. Our guest list is at 150.

I think 280 and up is large. 100 or less is small. Everything else seems medium/average 125-250. My wedding was about 300 family style and I really wish it had been more like 200 at a nicer venue. But there was no money for that. So it was really good enough.

    .

About thirty percent will say no and no shows of the total that you invited. That seems normal to me.

My guest list right now is at 110 and that's where I'm trying to keep it. I started out with a little more than that but I've went through the process of removing some names off the list. Hopefully I can keep it no more than 120. That's about the average size of most of the weddings I've recently attended.

My guest list ringt now is at 74 but I know at least 1 1/2 people will be added since my neice is getting married. The half is that she will probally bring her little one who will be just over 6 months.

Well I guess it just depends on what the norm is for your area. We are getting married in May and we are invited 384, with the expectation that only about 280-300 will actually show up. but when people ask about our guest list, we get the reaction that is it HUGE!
